First of all I'd like to say hi to everyone I've been away for quite a while due to being without a computer. I've missed being on here. So now I've been reviewing all the posts to seek an answer. I purchased a sr40 several months ago and really like it. However I don't get to shoot it as much as I would like which led me to discover the last two times out my getting light strikes. The first time I racked the slide several times and it began shooting properly, even the shells that had been previously light striked. The second time I tried I racked the slide again like before but got no results. After reading some posts on here am I reading correctly that improper reassembly can be the cause, i'm following the procedure given in the owners manuel ? I apologize if this has been discussed too much already

Have you cleaned the striker channel? If it's set up like my SR9C, then it's really easy to do.

The manual doesn't show removing striker as part of normal cleaning, but there is a video on the Ruger site for the cleaning the SR9C that shows removing the striker as part of the cleaning process.

Once the slide is off, it's about 15 seconds or so to get the striker out. I clean mine up good, then wipe the striker down with a very light coat of oil and reassemble after each range trip. The first time I did it was a pretty good amount of gunk. Last couple times the cleaning patch was dirty, but no actual debris, just enough to leave some black on the patch.

I clean the striker and channel after every outing. good habit to get into and I have not had light strikes. if that is not your issue contact customer service, they are good. another 200 thru mine today flawless and accurate.
