We had a pretty powerful storm here in Central NJ on Tuesday. I got home from work about 1800, a neighbor told me the power went out about 1230, she saw a news story saying we might not get it back till Thursday morning-it came back at 1930.
The winds tore two branches off a big tree. When the rain stopped and the Sun came out the kiddies quickly turned it into a play area, one neighbor said his 5 year old built a fort inside it.
Wednesday a tree crew came and cleaned it up.

I'm glad that you didn't have any more damage and the power was back on quickly. Here on the Gulf Coast we get more than our share of powerful storms. This year is predicted to be a higher number of named storms. Yep, I am a little nervous about what might be in the next few months.

Whenever I think of storms, I am reminded of my wife's brother and his attempts to escape the weather.

For many years he lived in Florida, where every year there was the threat of a hurricane, if not actually a reality. Tiring of this, he decided to relocate. So he did: to Arkansas. Yep, right smack dab in the middle of tornado alley.

Each spring there was the threat of a tornado, if not actually a reality. So he moved to Nevada. Now all he has to worry about are grass/forest fires each year.

Reminds me of the story of the history professor in the 1930s who looked at the big picture and saw that a World War was coming. He wanted no part of it, none at all. He did months of careful research, then cashed out everything he owned and moved his family to the safest place he could find on Earth, an island so remote and unimportant that no one could possibly have any interest in it. The island was called Guadalcanal.

So, was life not fair to you and your neighborhood?

Or to the kids who had their fort dismantled?

I am reminded of the year that a hurricane was slated to make a direct hit on Tampa; EVeryone packed up head inland and into Orlando; The Storm HIT Sarasota and went on up the middle of the state to smack Orlando !!
Tampa wasn't so bad, a little water and a couple of power lines was about it.

Weather...
My wife complains about the cold weather here in southcentral Pennsylvania in the winter. It sometimes gets down to 0°F which is old but she starts complaining at about 40°F. She doesn't like the snow either. She also complains about the summer heat.
She wants to live to Florida. I remind her that it gets hot in Florida plus they have these things called hurricanes and alligators.
We don't get many alligators in Pennsylvania these days.
Personally I don't mind the cold or the snow and I stay inside when the temperature gets into the 90s in the summer. I don't drive in the snow anymore...one of the perks of being retired.

I pretty much take the weather I get without complaint.
Southcentral Pennsylvania does get some big snow storms but not that many. Maybe one big one(12" or more) every couple of years and a 2ft+ about every five years. Tornadoes are about as rare as asteroid impacts hereabouts. We have never had a volcanic eruption and the very rare earthquakes we get are practically unnoticed when they do occur. No big wildfires ever happen around here either.
We do seem to get our fair share of rain storms but I think that is preferable to living in a desert.

I think that I will stay right here in boring weather-wise southcentral Pennsylvania.

We have been without power since around 1PM Tuesday it looks like a hurricane came thru oh wait it did  we just got the power back late this afternoon there are no kids playing outside here way to many trees blown over and broken off 0ne town over a guy was trying to clean up his yard and a limb broke off and killed him
