Nita and I drove to the town of Galaway, Tennessee today for lunch. Galaway is about forty miles east of Memphis on US Hwy. 70, and is the location of Slingshot Charlie's restaurant. It's a homey kind of place where you know everybody by the time you leave. Lots of old people eat there, I notice. Observed that to one gent and he said they looked young to him, and he a youngster of 71.
Lunch was fried catfish, fresh turnip greens and purple hull peas. Nita opted for chocolate chess pie for dessert, while I had warm pecan pie with vanilla ice cream.
I noticed a hand lettered sign: "We will close at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3rd for the Super Bowl."
After lunch we drove on up to Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge for a little drive. The Hatchie River is flooded in the bottom lands in the area. And there was a little rim of ice around the cypress tree trunks.
We came home and, not being too hungry, I boiled the remainder of some shrimp I bought recently.
Then just kicked back and did nothing for awhile.
