That must be fairly new. I used to have an Arizona carry license and it was only good for five years.

A related question is "why do licenses expire"? I have to renew my DL every four years. I don't take a test to make sure that I can see or drive, it is merely a formality. Make the licenses good until revoked.

Then we have the silliness of your expired drivers license is not valid for ID. Why? Did I suddenly stop being me? What this really is saying is that we only exist as people if the government says we are.

Now that I'm ranting . . . I recall a teacher in grade school saying that one of the unique things about America was that we did not have a national identity card and we did not need any special papers to travel. Boy, that's changed.

Drivers licenses have to conform to a federal standard. "Real ID" is needed to travel by air and if TSA gets its wish, bus and train will be included. The government can put you on a secret list and you can't travel by air. Your social security number used to be used for tax issues ONLY. Now, it has become our identity number and is tied to our DLs.

I was referring to the driver's license, yes the CPLs do expire every 5 years

You don't have to lose a wallet to have problems. One of the few times I actually had it in my pocket and put the Wranglers in the hamper. Son, being helpful washed the pant .... and the wallet. Anything not plastic was mush. Now to replace it all...so much fun
