LCR .38+P Intermittently Not Firing on One Chamber

Hi All,

I purchased the above Like New at a LGS a couple of weeks ago, after I put several rounds through. It is a fine shooter for the size and weight. Yesterday I was in the back yard showing a neighbor who is looking for a .38 CCW and he put 5 rounds through and I shot 3, then a no fire, waited and fired the 5th. We looked at the no fire and it was not hit. I reloaded and all 5 fired, including the no fire. Reloaded and had one no fire and same deal, it was not hit with the firing pin. Reloaded and, like before all 5 fired. One more time and all 5 fired.

I have not removed the grip to oil the hammer mechanism because Ruger says that it should be good for 1000 rounds and I doubt this has had over 100.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any break-in? I'm going to go back to the LGS this week.

Suggest first a thorough cleaning and lubrication, THEN test for function.

First thing I'd do is mark the chambers and see if it's always the same chamber. That seems highly unlikely, but worth checking. My guess is you have some hard primers, a weak hammer spring and some debris (or some combination of these) working together to cause the problem.

You must release the trigger completely before you pull again.

Hello All,

Thanks for the suggestions. I saved the brass and looked at them after I wrote my email. The indentations on the primers were not consistent in terms of depth, so I called Ruger and they said I should send it in. I had a return label before I got off the phone and the LCR is on its way back to the factory.

I'll post what I find out when it is returned.
