LCR 327

With a six shot SP101 in that caliber, I can't see why a six shot 327 LCR wouldn't be far behind.

All of the recent Ruger 327's have at least a 4 inch barrel. Something about reaching maximum potential. That would make for a not so compact "Lightweight Compact Revolver".

The 327 really needs the extra barrel length, in my experience. I only have one 327 in a 2" snubby (It is a Taurus stainless). I think it would need to be at least 3" to get the higher velocities touted for the round. I saw pretty significant differences chronographing a 3" SP, the 4" GP and the 8 shot BlackHawk with a 5.5" bbl. Federal American Eagle 100gr rounds did 1350-1375 in the SP, 1425-1450 in the GP an 1500-1525 fps in the BH. That load was about 75 fps loss for each inch of barrel.. That would mean 1275 to 1300 for a 2" LCR - not bad, but not great.
I would get one either way (Big shock, Hugh?). I would prefer a 3" gun anyway.

I've seen a big jump in velocity, too. My 3" SP101 was getting 1300 fps with the Speer 115 GDHP, but over 1500 fps in the 4-5/8" barrel of the Single Seven.
I'd still get the 2" LCR if/when it comes to be. I love the snubbies! 8)

I sent a request for a .327 Fed Mag LCR to Mike Fifer a while back. He replied that it wasn't going to happen due to issues with sourcing proof loads and the recoil plate.
That was before the Single Seven so things may have changed by now. Hope so as I am a fan of the .327 load and a .327 LCR would be at the top of my list. I already have an LCR in .38 Special and a .32 cal version would be great.

There is always a trade off for concealabilty with a shorter barrel ..but to me , that trade would be worth it ..I'd really have not much use for a longer barreled one being I'd be more interested in defensive carry ...

I'm a big fan of the .327 Fed Mag (I have a GP100 with 4" barrel in .327 Fed Mag, which is a joy to shoot).
I agree with the comments on barrel length -- in a standard snubbie 1.875 inch barrel, you wouldn't get as much velocity as you'd like to have with a lightweight bullet (85-100 grains being typical) but you sure would get a lot of noise and blast.
And in the LCR, would you want to fire that round from a gun weighing 15 - 16 ounces? The 3" LCR weighs only 15.7 ounces, while the SP101 with a 4.2" barrel weighs 29.5 ounces -- just about enough weight to make the .327 Fed Mag manageable and fun to shoot.
So, while it would be sporty, I'm not sure the LCR in .327 Fed Mag would be a good idea! Just one man's opinion.
