LCP Carry Mode?

Just purchased a new Ruger LCP the other day and was wondering about the best way to carry the gun...Do most folks carry it with the chamber empty or with one in the chamber after racking the slide? If in the chamber, is that considered safe? With the long trigger pull of the LCP it would seem safe, but I'm just wondering...Thanks for the help...

Seconds count when confronted by an armed suspect and racking a round in the chamber, is time enough for you to be shot or for him to strip the gun from you. I've been carrying mine for 2.5 yrs, round in chamber and ready to use. Mine is carried as a backup (Law Enf) and I carry Remington 102grain Golden Sabers. This ammo chamber flawlessly as I qualify three times a year with what I carry. Hope I've helped answer your question.. Good luck and stay vigilant!!

I carry it in a Blackhawk ankle holster and a GALCO QUICK SNAP Holster on my belt and have had "Zero" issues....

Chamber loaded, the LCP is as inert as a rock until the trigger is pulled though its complete travel. Safe? Absolutely, unless an careless fool is in control of it.

Agreed....round in the chamber. Fill mag, insert mag, rack a round into the chamber, remove mag, add one more round and insert mag.......and you're ready!

I carry it in an inside the coat pocket with one in the chamber.

One in chamber is the intended and a safe carry mode, as long as it's in a holster that covers the trigger.
NEVER just drop the weapon in a pocket loose!
And IMHO, avoid those "wallet" holsters with the open trigger and barrel holes that allow you to shoot the gun while still in the holster.

Although a pocket holster keeps the gun properly oriented, which is good, there's nothing really dangerous about just droppibg it in a pocket -- as long as you carry nothing else in the pocket, and keep your finger off the trigger.

I carry mine with the chamber loaded and depending on my dress for the day, if loose fitting trousers I just drop it in my right front pocket. If wearing tighter fitting jeans, I carry it in a leather pocket holster in right back pocket.

That's the main reason for the pocket holster, keeping your fingers, rings, whatever; away from the trigger when your reaching in to pull the gun out fast in a crisis.

It is perfectly safe in a pocket. There is nothing else in the pocket, it orients properly, doesn't move around and I never fondle the trigger while it is in there, however tempting that may be.

I carry mine with one in the chamber. It's in my front pants pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis holster. Both safe and comfortable.

With the ultra long (to a flaw) double action trigger pull, you would be hard pressed for it to go off even if you fiddle with the trigger.

Even an LC9 with a Gallows kit would be hard pressed to accidentally go off since the trigger pull is still longer and needs a tad more umph then a single action trigger.


I have not looked at the LCP but I am sure it also has a manual safety. Use it.

I carry mine in a coat pocket or in Uncle Mike's inside pant holster..... and sometimes when I'm in a really bad area, I carry it in my back pant pocket (wallet pocket). I figure if they want my wallet, I'll give em' my bullets first. I always carry it loaded, 6 in the mag, 1 in the chamber (.380 Auto Hornady Critical Defense FTX 90 Grain)

If any gun is safe, without a safety (and it doesn't have one), it's the LCP.
The trigger pull covers two time zones. I first shot mine just before shooting the Kimber Solo 9 Carry. THAT was an eye opener! I kept shooting the Kimber way before I was ready. I kept pulling as if I had another mile to the break, like the LCP. It took a lot of rounds to get used to the short pull of the Solo again.
