I've now got just over 300 rds thru my LC9, and all have been flawless except for one. The lone malfunction was with Federal Champion 115gr FMJ, on the first round of a mag, the spent casing failed to extract from the chamber. I inspected the casing and did not notice anything out of the ordinary. Over 200 rds of WWB and the other 99 rds of the Federal have functioned flawlessly.

The extractor claw is not damaged and has strong tension. Is it possible that it was just a bad ammo cartridge, or is this a sign of an extraction reliability issue? I was hoping to make this a carry gun, but this malfunction worries me some. If I put another 200-300 rds thru it, in addition to 50 rds of carry ammo, without issue, would I still be foolish to rely on it for carry?

I wouldn't brush aside the LC9 as a CC Gun just yet. It's still new, and just trying to get broken in. Not only the Gun, but the Mag as well. Since you said it happened on the first round of the Mag, I'm wondering if it might not be a Mag Issue, with the Mag Spring pushing too tightly against the Top Round, thus not allowing the Extractor to eject the previous Casing properly. I hope that makes sense.

When do you load your Mags for a Range Trip? I always fully load mine the night before, especially in a new gun, to allow the New Mag's Spring to compress overnight.

Out of over 1K Rounds of WWB 115gr FMJ fired, I have yet... knock on wood... to have a Malfunction, using these Rounds in 5 different 9mm guns. I just bought my LC9 Thursday, and will finally head to the Range with it on Wednesday this week. Can't wait to try it out!

My LC9 will be my Summer Carry in my Cargo Pants Pocket, while I will use my Beretta PX4 SC as my Winter Carry in an IWB Holster.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

I've had three just like that shooting Win. WB and IMO it's the crappy range ammo & not the gun. Mine has been flawless with all quality defense ammo. The Win. WB & Fed. Champion as sold at Walmart is merely range fodder and I'm sure the QC is less than on good defense ammo. I have had no problem with Fed. Champion in mine but correlating your FTE and mine I feel safe saying it's probably the crappy ammo.
