LC9 Extra magazine issues

Hello all, newbie here. I recently purchased an LC9 Laser Max and am yet to take it to the range. The reason was I wanted 2 extra magazines so I would not have to stop and reload every 7. I ordered two Ruger factory LC9 Magazines and they finally arrived. Since I am going to the range tomorrow I figured I take them out inspect them and make sure they fit properly. They did , but when I would pull the slide, it would lock open. Nothing? I had to drop the mag to release the slide. Tried the other one same thing. Dropped the mag and in goes the mag that came with, racked the slide and chambered a round. Since I haven't spent much time with this pistol I put the original mag back in with no ammo and racked the slide with no problem? am I missing something? I took both of the new mags apart and all was fine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

were all 3 mags loaded with ammo?

If they were take the new mags apart clean them and reassemble and try again.

Yes all three mags were loaded, funny thing is the magazine that came with the pistol can be slung unloaded. Shouldn't it stay in the locked position empty?

Yes they should stay locked in when the mag is empty.
I'm going from memory here.......There is a slot on the mag that the mag catch goes in.
Check for burs on the slot and dirt on the catch in the pistol.
