KMK512 00182?

Just bought one of these on Gun Broker. I googled the Model # and couldnt find much info. I paid way to much but I have been looking for a SS MKII for a while so I pulled the trigger. It has half smooth and half checkered grips on it and was advertised as NIB. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Thanks

Nothing eh? I tried to post a pic but I couldnt copy it. I'm familiar with the KMK512 just not the grips and I guess I'm curious if it was a cataloged item, distributor exclusive, etc. Either way I'm excited.

Difficult to tell what you have without a picture. Do they match the grips available on the Ruger WEB site?

any "special" note, would be designated on the end label itself, with out that you;'d have to contact 'records' and find out just what it shipped out as...sounds to me like a regular 'stainless' 5 1/2 inch target model , that has some sort of possibly aftermarket/Ruger grips...............

Is only one of the grip panels half-checkered with a thumbrest and the other grip panel fully checkered?

I have the same thing on an older Mark II 6-7/8, but they're a black eagle rather than red, and they're laminated rather than walnut.

Note the lack of a Ruger medallion on the right panel. Definitely aftermarket grip panels.... and NICE ones.

If you want factory grip panels for it, the black plastic ones aren't all that expensive.... and the Hogues mentioned in the above link can be had for about $60.

I'm a little concerned. I bought the gun listed as NIB. Aftermarket grips on a NIB gun? I am going to email the seller to find out what the scoop is. Thanks for your help! So should 00182 have the black plastic from the factory? I planned on leaving the gun NIB and would like it to be factory correct. Thanks again!

Any ideas on who makes the grips that are on the gun currently? I will probably sell them once I figure out what is supposed to be on the gun and need to figure out a good price for the aftermarket ones. Thanks for all the help!

don't look "factory" to me, more like some older S&W model 52 or 39 grips actually.do you have a peek at the 'other' side ????
We have not seen ANY Ruger grips like those............

Yes, the original grips on that gun (Ruger model 00182 which is the normal factory KMK-512) would have been checkered black plastic with a medallion in the right grip (up to 1999) and in both grip panels after 1999.

As stated, though.... depending on the age, maybe it ought to have the grips with the medallion only on the right.

Thanks again for all of the help. I emailed the seller and he said that he bought the gun from an individual seller NIB. So the original owner must have replaced the grips. I asked him if the guy is a regular and perhaps he has the originals or could shed some light on what brand they are. The grips look to be well fit from the pictures in relation to the safety, bolt stop and even the little "jog" in the frame behind the trigger. I actually really like the way they look and the more I fret over it I'm thinking that perhaps I will keep the grips on the gun. We'll see how they feel in person and go from there. The more that I look at MK II prices I didnt do to bad on the price if it is in fact NIB. We'll see! Thats the joy of buying sight unseen and for being basically a MKII novice. Thanks again to everyone for helping me figure out whats what! I love this place.

Even though they're not factory, those grips are a plus. They look many times more pricey than Ruger's standard black plastic.

This Mark II model was my first gun. It came with the black checkered plastic grips as talked about above. Great gun as well. You really don't see this model for sale too often. The pictured grips are nice. I currently have the wood grips from Ruger with the thumb rest, I think they were around $40 or $50 from Ruger. Enjoy the pistol!
