Have to agree. Unless it's to keep a silencer to a manageable length there's no reason for them to exist. It doesn't exactly enhance concealability or accuracy. Unless you’ve held one, or better yet shot one… you might not want to form too strong an opinion.
Much like revolvers- some like snubbies, some like Buntlines.
I’ve been a MK II fan since I the early 90’s, when I was old enough to legally purchase one. When Lipsey's put these out in 2004, I had my local shop order one in, for me to check out. I picked it up, hefted it, sighted down the barrel, and said, “I’ll take it!”
I like it so much, I’ve since gotten a second one.
I’ve got stainless MK IIs in every barrel configuration that the factory put out. The KMK4BL is my hands-down favorite.
You leave those ugly guns alone… I’ll be happy to keep scooping them up!

Ruger makes some beautiful firearms, and some that many consider 'ugly' (the old P-series being an example). Because the beautiful ones cost more than my budget can afford, I tend to own those at the 'ugly' end of the spectrum!
The MK4B, MK4BL and KMK4BL are some of the best little .22 pistols ever made. Until you handle one you might not realize it. They are more of a carrying and using pistol than a target pistol. The stainless one is a FrankenRuger instead of a true KMK4BL but it works well so it has a good home

I think I will pass. Not a fan of that barrel length.

Tastes are a highly subjective matter. I think they're cool looking and have excellent balance and handling qualities myself...But, I've always been partial to short barreled handguns in general.

If we all liked the same things it would be a dull world. There is a Ruger for almost every taste. As long as you know how to put a MK2 Ruger pistol together correctly they are the best of the 4 model changes as far as I am concerned.

Pretty rare gun. I have the blue version, MK4BL, with the gold trigger and smooth rosewood grips but I think the stainless is rarer. Both were Lipsey's distributor specials. RENE says 2457 of the blue ones were made (all with 223 prefix, yet mine has a 225 prefix like these only a little lower than the known low stainless, so maybe it was a cleanup gun when they were about to start making these) but no stated known quantity of the stainless guns. I also have a plain blue MK4B in the 221 prefix, made in the time when the plastic boxes had no smooth label area so they used cardboard shippers. Neat little guns, basically a KMK512 with 1.5" lopped off so it carries better when sitting, like on the tractor.

Bought a blue one when they first came out. Called Ruger and asked if they were going to make a stainless one. The lady on the phone said definitely not. About a year later there they were in the gun stores. BTW I believe they came in the green plastic box. Still have the stainless with the green box.

According to my sources, 1,002 of the KMK4BL. My MK4BL and KMK4BL are both 225 prefixes.

All too true. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and though I may not consider my KP345PR my most beautiful firearm, it certainly is functional, which after all is the most important characteristic of most firearms. My beauties and the beasts...Ruger makes some beautiful firearms, and some that many consider 'ugly' (the old P-series being an example).
