Keith #5 from Bowen

Nice.... Looks almost exactly like an OM Clements #5 that a forum buddy up in NC set me...

Man I would LOVE to have a gun like the one on Bowens site! Wait a minute, Hamilton DID just finish one like this for me! :D The gun started as an old model 357 flat top and it morphed into a Ruger version of the Keith #5 only in 41 Special with a second cylinder in 41 Mag and an octagon barrel. Paul Persinger carved the ivory grips based on a picture I sent him of one of my Scottish Highlander steers I had.

That's what it reminded me of too! Before that one I had a large frame nm by Clements he still shows on on his site and a TLA #5. Good times.

Thats more than nice that's real nice and good choice of caliber with the 41.

BigMuddy who did those grips? A #5 grip frame normally needs a ivory or at least ivoryish looking set of grips but those walnuts are extremely nice...

Thanks Fowler

I looked at some of the "ivoryish" grips, but really like walnut so I went to Ted Adamovich and Blu Magnum. He did a great job fitting them to my gun and they feel as good as they look too.

BigMuddy I am pretty sure I handled that gun last summer when I was over at Tedd's place. The grips were still wet but I sure liked the looks of what they were shaping up to be.

Yes Fowler I think you did.....Ted is truly a gentleman of the highest order as I am sure you know.

Thanks Robb..I am a big 41 fan too. I bet that one is a real shooter. Having the "special" cylinder I would imagine lets you get any length bullet you would care to use into the cylinder.

Ron added quite a few nice touches to this gun that don't show up in a picture. He is one of the true "Grand Masters".

Ted's work is pretty well known, but these were my first grips I had done from Blu Magnum. They won't be my last. The best compliment I can give to them came from Ron Power. Ron is pretty particular to say the least. When I took the gun to him with the grips I asked what he thought. He looked them over and said "those are PERFECT". I don't think I ever heard him use that word to describe anything.

I have since added a Bowen Rough Country rear sight and am constantly changing the front sight blades. It now has a gold bead front. (The sight is a Weigand and changing blades is a snap)

I have about 3000 rounds through my gun at this point. Have taken a few pests with it, and one deer this past fall. I have used the Keith load, the Skeeter load, and have settled on what will come to be known as the "Pearce" load of 8.2 gr of Power Pistol and a 250gr Keith bullet. This load is really nothing less than amazing. If you have not tried Power Pistol in the 44 special you need to. Robb, I have had some good luck with it in the 41 mag too.
