i have a p95 that i carry in a uncle mikes holster, right now i open carry here in kentucky as i can't afford my ccp yet. my wife doesn't like for me to load a round in the chamber while i'm carrying, she wants me to wait till i need to. how do yall carry your p95's?, do you carry loaded or just the mag full? also when i place it in the bedside drawer she said she would feel better if it wasn't loaded, she thinks it might go off by itself. how do yall keep yours at home? oh i'll mention this about home, we have no kids and any visitors are all grown. thanks

if I,m carrying its loaded one in the pipe always .

just my opion never will your have the time to rack a round in if the poop hits the fan .

if I leave the house I,m carrying becomes natural like blinking.

Keep one in the chamber. If she is nervous, tell her the safety is on or it is decocked (which ever applies) and can't fire. Take a handgun safety class with her so she will understand how guns work and will know how to handle them safely. My wife was nervous about me carrying so we took a course together and it made all the difference in the world. For some reason, hearing it from someone else (the instructor) "made it stick" with her. I even learned or relearned a few things myself!

You can't get much safer than a p95 when it comes to design. It would be more dangerous trying to chamber a round during the heat of the moment. To be honest a loaded unholster glock gives me the creeps, but a p95 loaded either on safe or not with the heavy first DA pull is so much more forgiving under stress. The saftey/decocker mechanism on the p95 or beretta 92fs is, to me, the best design out there. Having a saftey that disengages the trigger bar from the sear is so much better than a saftey that blocks the trigger or hammer. And having a decocker that drops hammer all the way instead of half cocked is great too.

The only time my P95 is without a round in the chamber is when I clean it.
That first shot is the most important.

Don't tell your wife. Load it up when she ain't lookin.

You'll need those precious milliseconds should the P95 ever need to be put into action. Like everyone else is saying, yes, for your sake, carry with one in the chamber. It's not worth the risk to do otherwise IMO. Don't worry, it's extremely safe with the saftey/decocker and the very heavy DA trigger. 16 is better than 15, and an unloaded gun is useless.

The only guns that I don't loaded are my .300 WinMag M77 Hawkeye & my .223 CZ %27 Lux, they don't have iron sights and the scopes are sighted in too far away for self defense. But, EVERYTHING else ALWAYS has a full mag plus one in the chamber. I even keep the bayonet open on the SKS and in easy reach (I'm sinlge with no kids in the house, so I can get away with it.)

The most dangerous gun is one you think doesn't have a round in the chamber.

imho

And just imagine if your other arm/hand were injured and you were unable to rack the slide when you needed to.

Don't tell your wife.

I have to admit that was my first response too. That way you both have peace of mind.

I agree with the others, mine are always loaded with a round chambered.

For self-defense use when you are carrying the gun, it really needs to have one cranked into the chamber. Not only because of the time factor, not only because of a possible injury factor, but what happens if, say, you are holding your wife's hand when "it" goes down? Fear reaction makes your muscles clench up, she really clamps down on your hand and there you are, with a gun that's not ready to go. Another possibility is you are carrying something in your weak hand when confronted. Or trying to keep someone from going for your gun with your weak hand. All involve your strong hand being tied up and unavailable. Your SD gun NEEDS to be ready to go just by squeezing the trigger.

As for readiness at home, if the gun isn't on you, it should be unloaded. Period. No mag and empty chamber. Not having kids or only adult visitors is no excuse. You can keep the mag near the gun, ready to insert and rack the slide, but the gun should be empty. I've seen more adults than kids pick up a gun and mess around with it. If they aren't familiar with guns, don't realize it's loaded and just pull the trigger, what are the odds that they know to watch where the muzzle is? Good recipe for a tragedy.

You need to send your wife to a handgun class... alone with out you... let her learn about guns and feel more comfortable with them.

I have to disagree with bub above.... the only guns I have around my house that are unloaded are the ones locked in the safe. Other than being cleaned... any hand gun laying about or hidden away in easy reach is always loaded... with one in the chamber. I do have to admit to an hypocrisy though... rifles I don't put one in the chamber....just a full mag in them.

I keep mine fully loaded inside a quick access safe and highly recommend the same if you have young kids at home.

who cares what the woman thinks?

i care alot about what she thinks, she's the one i plan to be with for many many years i hope. she is very pro gun but is afraid of handguns, she shoots long guns ok. i took her in the back yard yesterday with the hangun unloaded and asked her to try the trigger pull, she did and she is much more at ease now that just touching the trigger won't make it fire. i also found out that she had been looking up about jennings and lorcin and a friend of hers has a high point which will fire with a very light touch on the trigger, i told her that those guns were single action and cheaply made. i then talked her into trying my gun unloaded, she now has agreed that the p95 will be ok loaded. thanks

spetch99 Has it figured out! And by the way spetch99, welcome to the forum! Murphy's Law. If anything can go wrong, it will! Once knew of a guy who worked the night shift in a convenience store. He carried a .25 auto in his pocket loaded. His boss and others talked him into getting a .38 Special and leaving it under the counter up front. He was found dead and battered in a back room of the store. Makes that .25 auto he "used" to carry look pretty good now doesn't it? An unloaded gun or a "loaded" one that is out of "reach" is about as useless as a cop 20 minutes away!.............Dick

Yep, the P95 is designed to be safely carried with one in the pipe. Thats how you should carry it: when seconds count the police are only minutes away.

When I carry my Glock it has one in the chamber too. It goes bang if you put your finger on the trigger quite easily. That doesn't make it any more unsafe to carry with a round in the chamber than the P95.

A gun is a tool. Learn to use the tool appropriately.

I suggest letting your wife have some time shooting the P95 and she may start liking pistols.

Most women that like to shoot and hate handguns is due to some fool handing them a lightweight revolver in 357 mag. Then telling them this is a good gun for ladies.

You need to carry her to the range.Load the gun and set the safety ,give her the gun and let her try to fire it.Then take it from her, turn off the safety let her see , and fire the gun. When i bought a P95 for my daughter thats the first thing we did.She may end up likeing to shoot so you may loose the P95.I have a SR9c that i havent fired yet,I know my daughter is gonna try to take from me.LOL MIKE

Glad you got this issue hashed out with your wife. As some of the others have said not having your pistol ready could have been a disaster.

When I carry, my gun always has one in the tube. I prefer a gun with a grip safety or a revolver, but I usually carry my SR9 as I'm not a fan of using my more expensive guns for CCW.
I would NEVER carry any gun without a holster... I have friends that will carry a chambered pistol in their waste band or in a pocket (no holster) and that's just stupid IMO.

I'm glad you educated your wife and ...also glad you don't plan to deceive her about it's readiness. That was not the best idea around. (Think about it.)

The only gun I kept without one in the chamber was my 1911 Colt when kids were in the house. I kept that one with an empty chamber, in cocked/locked condition-two. I felt that someone would have to 1- know how to take the safety OFF, before the thing could even be manipulated to be loaded, ...and ....
2- have the knowlege AND strength to pull the slide back and release it to chamber a round... things small kids are unlikely to be capable of, even if they COULD find where I hid the gun.

Now that no kids are around anymore I keep my pistols/revolvers loaded. What good is an unloaded gun?

It's been said many times...An unloaded gun is a heavy paperweight, and just as useful.
