I was watching the GB auction for the Security Six RoninPA won :D I tried to trade the guy an Enfield for it but he wanted too much $$$ thrown in so I walked lol I'm glad it went to a good home, I liked the look of that Security Six, reminded me of an old bank guard gun or something.

I can see the low backs really shooting up in value as Ruger DA collecting catches on......

Whatdya mean when it catches on? It started catching on some years back. The really good ones are getting hard to find, and the bargains even harder. :D

Amen to that. When I'm on the road and get the chance I try to hit as many pawn shops and gun shops as I can to see what's out there. All Six series guns are getting hard to find. That's why if I find a beater and can get it at a good price I do so as they can be refurbed.

Now I'm looking for a SS 6" Security Six to add to my collection. I even have trading material, an OM Blackhawk, unconverted (.357) and a OM Single Six, unconverted (both cylinders but the magnum doesn't match s/n wise).

I was thinking like older S&W's and Colts have blown up, in comparison, there aren't nearly as many of us Ruger DA collectors out there.....which is good 8)

I also buy any decent priced Six I can find, I have some that look like they were left in leather holsters for decades (probably were) but if I can get them for about $200 I'm happy. I think we're seeing the last of the cheaper priced trade ins. One of my favorite Sixes, ironically, is my most beat up one.......a 4" blue Service Six .38 Special, it was a security gun that looks like it rusted over and someone scoured the rust off with a wire brush. It was the first gun I carried when I got my CC Permit, and is the gun I carried the most until I started using other guns...........it's relatively rare, an SDA-84HP but it's so beat it doesn't really matter. Plus I have 4 others from the same trade-in lot in much better condition 8)

This is it after carrying it all day in the heat.......and also why I decided to start using stainless for my carry revolvers 8)

Can some one post a pic of both a low and high back side by side so this visually challenged Security Six owner can see the difference? I think I may have a stainless low back but would love to see the difference.

Go a couple of posts back and see the two that I refinished. The top one is the newer model (high back) and the bottom one is a low back. Look at the slope of the frame from the cylinder release down to the grips and also see how much of the hammer you can see in the low back versus the high back.

Plus, if you took the grips off, you can see the "hump" in the back strap of the low back model versus the smoother line of the back strap on the newer models.
