You need to make the decision whether you want to a) shoot it and accept that you've devalued the gun by doing so, b) not shoot it and retain a little better resale value, or c) shoot it and plan on having it refinished if/when you want to resell it (which will probably reduce the resale value anyway because it has been "refinished").
If you want guns to not lose value, don't shoot them. If you shoot them, enjoy it and don't worry so much about resale. Just consider the lost money a cost of enjoying the firearm.
