How can I prevent or reduce the cylinder turn line? It has the matte finish and I would like to keep it as nice as possible but I also plan on shooting it as much as possible.

Bout the only thing you can do besides to get a gunsmith to re-time the cylinder latch and lock-up is to polish the edges of the cylinder latch a little so it doesn't scratch the cylinder as much. Also the matte finish should be able to be touched-up with a Scotch Brite pad.

I have one as well, I believe its actually a coating, so you don't want to go after it with a scotch brite. I'm reasonably confident that the turn line is going to happen and its not preventable on the GP100.

Anyway, shoot it and enjoy it, don't worry about the line.

I'm not as concerned about the turn line for myself as keeping as much resale value in it. I have a 4 inch GP and its my shooter. I can polish it and make it look new. Mainly concerned about the matte finish looking rough sooner than it should.

You need to make the decision whether you want to a) shoot it and accept that you've devalued the gun by doing so, b) not shoot it and retain a little better resale value, or c) shoot it and plan on having it refinished if/when you want to resell it (which will probably reduce the resale value anyway because it has been "refinished").

If you want guns to not lose value, don't shoot them. If you shoot them, enjoy it and don't worry so much about resale. Just consider the lost money a cost of enjoying the firearm.
