Just bought my first #1

Had a little extra money and was browsing the web when I ran across a Number One in 375 H&H made in 2003 new in the box for 700.00 dollars out the door. I am a big bore junkie so I pulled the trigger on the deal. Looks like I am going to be needing dies,brass,bullets and shellholders but I guess that most of us have been in this position before. Ha

The guy I bought the rifle from also has a Ruger 77RS Markll in 35 Whelan. It has the wood inserts on the forearm and pistol grip in a synthetic stock with the boat paddle stock. I think it was a run of 500 that Davidson did. I don't beleive I have ever seen one in a Whelan. Just thought I would pass it alone. He had it for 850 plus 35 shipping.

Congratulations. You got it for a good price. The #1 is one of the few Rugers I have never owned. Have always wanted one, but too cheap to buy one!

That was my first Number 1 as well. Yep, get reloading stuff because I think You'll find it is a real shooter. I did.

That's as good a No. 1 to start with as any I can think of. Classic chambering in a classic rifle. Load it down for hours of shooting fun, or use it full power to hunt just about anything short of dionsaurs.

I think the 375 (or 416 for that matter) could be one of the best do-it-all versatile calibers out there for small to large game. The only down side is that most of the bullets are expensive because it's a safari caliber. At least you're planning to reload, though. Congratulations on your first No.1. I still remember when and where I bought my first one (a 45-70).
