I finally got this gun to the range yesterday. Functioned perfectly very smooth and accurate , but good Lord the recoil is brutal.
I figure it is because of how light it is, but it was really surprising. My 30/30 and .308’s have less recoil. It defies logic.

I was surprised how stout the recoil was on mine, also. I was wearing a t-shirt and I have a nice buttpad waffle pattern bruise on it.
At some point in time I'll probably fit a buttpad instead of the plastic plate. The stock has been refinished once, and not that great a job, so I have no reservations about doing it again myself, and adding a pad.

Is that the bears spirit leaving its body? That 45/70 is a work of art!

I love the button magazine look. Pretty sure that's non-factory but I sure like it. I have a 336-A in .30-30 and a model 71 Winchester .348 that have the half magazine, and I really like that style.

Ironically the trimmed magazine tube brought the capacity down to 5+1. So it would be perfect for you, 6GUNSONLY.

I have the little Outfitter one, with the 16 1/2" ported barrel, nice and handy in the woods , took one smaller 8 pt with it so far , but for the most part it sits in the safe
I would've been seriously tempted at $750. I don't know if anyone answered this but these guns were D&T for receiver sights from the factory.
I like the magazine mods. I imagine it was 20" and shortened to 18" to get rid of the evidence of the mag tube band.
I got the 1894S model years ago and always thought recoil and muzzle blast was very mild. Much less than the .30-30.

I like the shorter barrel and magazine. I have considered such a conversion on one of mine!

The sights don't hurt the value to some because they're a proven combination but I myself would take off $150 for them because I don't want fiber optic anything (yes, I have tried them) on any gun and I would want original parts. I have peep sights on my 336RC and my 39A but they are steel and from the 1950's. It's priced about $500 lower than average for my area. I'd pay $750, replace the sights with OEM, and sell off the aluminum and plastic stuff.

I just realized Marlin added the safety in 1983 I believe 42 years ago!
This means the first Marlins with safeties will be C&R eligible soon.
How can something I view as “new” be a “relic”? Were did the time go?
