IVORY STATUS?

It is ugly from what I understand. I was looking at the USF&W summary site and there appear to be two exceptions to interstate sales. One is an antiquities type exception and another deals with the things like panels on guns. If you want to use the second exception De Minimis exception, there are 6 criteria that ALL have to be met including proof that th ivory was pre-ban, less then 200 grams in toal weight, not to exceed a percentage of the total value of an item and integral to the item such as a revolver. The really nasty part is they do not have to prove your ivory is not pre-ban, you have to prove it is. How in the heck will a person get proof from vendors that supplied ivory to Ruger years ago?

Google De Minimis Exception of the federal ivory ban and it should get you to the final ruling.

One step closer to being communist.
Here in Iowa we've got an attorney general, one of several attorney general's across our 50 states that have grouped together to come up with the legal speak to start doing witch hunts for companies who fail to recognize global warming.
Just remember at election time we need to send these intellectuals to the unemployment line.

Yes sir, one swipe with the executive pen and the guys that collect ivory grips for historical reasons and to show the full history of Ruger revolvers just got hamstrung if they ever wanted to sell them unless they are mounted on a gun and even then the grips can not exceed I believe it is 50% of the value of the entire package. I am sure this will make every poacher in Africa stop doing their illegal poaching because of the new law.

It's not just Ivory. It's also certain species of exotic wood. Ebony, some rosewoods and others.

This is all governed by the Lacey Act: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/import-information/SA_Lacey_Act

Will all these regulations drive the price up on colts and rugers with factory ivories? Or is it ultimately a situation that if you currently own them you just cant sell/buy them?

I know the gun library manager at the local cabelas pretty well. He just bought 4 second and first generation colt single action army revolvers from a private individual. Two of them had factory ivory grips and he had to buy them without the grips on them. Cabelas corporate policy now is no ivory grips--and when the used guns in their system with them are gone there will be no more sold by cabelas. I was shocked that the private individual sold them without the grips!

Kind of a rinky-dink thing all the way around--------

Well...one more reason to be speculative on any Ruger ivory purchase.
If the fakers don't ruin it for you, the government will finish them off.
Anybody tired of regulation yet??? We've been legislating our own downfall for a while now. Yet the idiots keep getting voted in.

I was planning on having a set of factory ivories on one of my display guns next week at the OGCA show..not anymore..not even going to show them anymore, just in case. And, I am not the only one..at least 2 other displayers have pulled their ivories.

I'm with you RR, I just want to see where this goes..hate to see some federal wildlife agent walk in and start demanding proof of age, etc..I know "possession" is not illegal in Ohio, but who the hell knows how this crap will be "interpreted "

Well I don't think you or anyone will have a problem at the OGCA SHOW with any "wildlife agents"....

This is a private show for members only...if the agent wants in he will need to be invited by a member just like any other guests....and I am sure the agents BOSS is a member so it might get a bit sticky    RR

sorry RR but I know "wildlife' agents that ARE members of OGCA..............and when it comes to enforcing ANY state or especially ,federal laws, they are allowed in.......member or not..........
just like I know several BATF agents active,as well as retired, who are Members, they like their guns too, and are into collecting also...... 8)

if you want to know MORE as to the 'ivory' situation, please go and see Sandy Brady, she is always set up at the show

for you folks who do STILL live in areas where they continue to perpetrate all these laws on YOU and try for the rest of the country, about time YOU start becoming active in YOUR area, and fight this liberal bull crap................don't say NO, look at Australia......

Yeah....the feds raided the Gibson guitar factory a couple years ago because of all that contraband ebony they had laying around.
Nobody is immune when they start doing witch hunts. Yet most people will continue to be Sheeple.

Hey RR, any "inquires" bout the ivory gripped guns from guys slinking around taking notes? Real curious how this ivory thing will play out with collector guns like many of you guys have and the various shows with displays.

Well ROBB, I had 4 sets of IVORY and 4 sets of STAG on display without any problems....

Seen several sets of STAG get sold too....I think the "GRIP POLICE" had the weekend OFF....RR
