Intresting S/W Russian # 3

I pick this up off and old timer here in AK. I don't know much about them. ser 2977. 1881? but made from 1881 to 1903 from my records. its in the 44 Russian cal. its Nickled Played, tight, great bore and shoots great! your info is requested from smarter SW guys then me. Mr. Deerstalker

I can't tell you much, other than I've shot these, and in .44 Rooshkie they are absolute powder puffs.

I'm ignorant of many S&W's so I'm no help. But that does look like a NICE one from that era!

I used to have one, not as nice as yours. It is called .44 Double Action First Model *New Model Navy No 3 Revolver) chambered in 44 Russian. There was also the .44 Double Action Frontier which had a 1 9/16" long cylinder to accommodate 44-40.
Measure your cylinder if you do not have either of those rounds to test fit. It is a very cool 44!

Nice find.

One thing I can say is that it's been re-nickeled and not by the factory because it has plating on parts the factory did not plate; hammer, trigger, trigger guard.

I can also say by looking that it does not have the longer cylinder and also because they weren't used on the Russian model 'till much later after #58,xxx.
The barrel bore is not great but typical and might surprise you with how well it shoots.
