Thanks, but ... well ... it's actually a synthetic ivory but very handsome in person and, in my humble opinion, much better than the real thing for a number of reasons (cost and availability certainly being among them). Read all about it at Arizona Custom Grips' web site.

I have 5 sets from them. Very solid material and that's a good thing since my Dad used to tell me "Boy you could tear up a crowbar in a sand pile." I may buy another set or two?

Agreed - very solid. They are rugged and give every appearance of providing a long useful life without the vulnerability and required maintenance of elephant or walrus.

They look pretty good, we used to get that type of grip ,was called 'Truivory' Bar S grips up in Everett, Wash I believe was some time ago and they did a really nice job but after we closed the shop not sure what they do these days...then Cary here on the forum made us some from something called "holley wood"(SIC), even looked like grain in real ivory grips.............

The wood that Cary used is called "American Holly." And yes,, it can be amazingly similar to real ivory.

I bought a set of faux ivorys for SBH from a forum member recently. Like the looks of them. Asked my shooting partner if he would like them for his SBH, said only real ivorys would do for him.
My 'smith gave me a pair a few monthe ago. I put them on a thread, was told they are not real because the lines were not visible on the ends. They passed the hot pin test, while the faux pair failed miserably. So real or fake?

I understand there's also a UV light test but I'm no authority on ivory. I only know I'm happy with my grips.

I have a set of Ivory Polymer grips on my SSM...I bought them around 20 ago years plus. The company is Ajax. I still have the box or package for them. It says made in USA in Dallas TX since 1959. The ironic thing and the reason I kept the package is it says it will fit Blackhawks and Single Sixes, but not 32 H&R ?? But they fit my SSM like a glove and look and feel great.

the Ajax grips said that because at that time ,the Single Six in .32 H&R came out and it was like a "mini Vaquero", and a shorter grip frame and the cyl.frame was marked Single Six, (SSM?) maybe for the SASS shooters?? been a while since we had any of that model.:cool:;)

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing about a differing grip frame. I had bought these about maybe 20 years ago ?? I just looked up Ajax and the original company went out of business back in '09 or '11. Then another group took over. Who knows if maybe they were the same people ?? Either way, I like mine.

Well ... they do custom engraving like for my Single-Six; maybe they would make custom grips too. Send 'em an e-mail; can't hurt to ask.

Know what you mean about the quality of those Magna-Tusk grips. They're top notch quality in looks and build.

I've got a set with the red medallion on my Super Wrangler I found at a local pawn shop. Was really pleased when the owner got these off the wall that also held other loose grips for lots of different manufacturers.

I have a set of the Magnatusk grips on my old model flattop .357, and agree they are very nice.

Sheep horn often looks similar to ivory as well.

Ive got this really nice set of mammoth ivory stocks for my 1911, but they are too thick and change the feel of a slim 1911. Its a bummer.

Ive got this really nice set of mammoth ivory stocks for my 1911, but they are too thick and change the feel of a slim 1911. Its a bummer.

I image they're proud of them suckers too.

I'd have bought a set, if they were available.
