It's snowing on Raton

I Wish It Would Stop Snowing by Sethifus:

Do you remember spring
It seems so long ago
When everything was green
And not covered in five feet of snow

After hours and hours
Of April snow showers
All of the May flowers have died
The snow drifts keep growing
I wish it would stop snowing
So I wouldn't be scared to go outside.

It might be global warming
That made the temperature drop
But with no growing season
Can the farmers grow crops

It's been cold for so long
It brings to mind
The Chronicles of Narnia book one
The farmers aren't sowing
I wish it would stop snowing
So you and me could have a little fun

Burning up with cabin fever
Cuz I miss all my friends
A timely heatwave could bring
My isolation to an end

My heart is sinking
I'm tired of drinking
And staring so longingly at my phone
The screen is glowing
I wish it would stop snowing
So I wouldn't have to drink alone

Raton Pass is about 60 miles east of me as a bird or drone or sneaking black helicopter might fly. A bit longer over the forest road.

I’m about three hours south of the pass and get up there often. Townes Van Zandt is likely my most favorite song writer. We lost him way too early.

Don’t get much snow where I am, but I just came in here to say how much I love TVZ. Our country’s greatest songwriter, in my opinion

Sitting here watching it snow, and this song popped into my head, "It's snowing on Raton" by one of my favorite song writers, Townes Van Zandt. Does anyone else have a snow song, and does anyone here live near Raton Pass?
Vacationed many times in Raton at the wonderful NRA Whitington Center...Winter in Raton can be Very challenging! I-25 is routinely closed each Winter.
I always loved that big Western store in Raton as well as visiting Lake Dorothy.. really is a very interesting destination

Gary Lee, "The Rodeo song"

It's forty below and I don't give a f@ck, I got a heater in my pickup truck, and I'm off to the Rodeo
The Rodeo Song was in the jukebox at a neighborhood bar called the "X Saloon" southwest of Denver that I hung out for a while, I guess 1982-1983. You'd hear it a couple times per evening. I think the group was called Sundown. As I recall, you can scratch the word "pickup" from that line above. Years later, maybe around 2000 on a trip back to CO to visit my mom, I stopped at the local Goodwill store and found a copy of The Rodeo Song on 45 RPM record and bought it for whatever they charged (no more than 50 cents).

Growing up in Denver with grandparents in Texas, we would go back and forth over Raton Pass fairly often.

A number of years ago, early '90's, I was on a date in Nashville. We stopped in at a music bar, and there was this girl singing, had a beautiful voice, She sang some Townes covers, great job. After the set, I stood in line and bought a cd, Around Townes. Still one of my favorites. Her name was Jonell Mosser. Worth a listen.
