My name is Brian and I'm new to this forum although I post using the same screen name on a few other forums as well.

I've owned revolvers for 30 years and just in the last year, I bought my first semi-automatic (a 9mm AR24-15, a Turkish gun imported by Armalite).

This week I'm picking up my second 9mm, a new Ruger P95 in SS. I've already done some research and it sounds like the P95 will shoot about any ammo without issue (my AR24 only likes 124 grain, I get occasional stovepipes with 115 grain).

Does anyone have any advice I need to follow or tips that would help me get the most of my new p95??

Give it a good cleaning after you get it home and then shoot the heck out of it!

Welcome to the forum! You'll find a gathering of knowledgeable folks here that are more than willing to share their experiences!!

I second b.thomas's comments.. give your P95 a good cleaning, then start running rounds through it.. you'll have a ball!! Ruger makes good, solid firearms, and the P-series are pretty tough units!

Have fun and enjoy your new toy!!

Cheers!

FC ... Welcome to the forum & congrats on your new KP95 ... Glad to have you aboard. Since my P95 is now over 9,000 rounds down the pipe (wide variety of ammo) without a single failure of any kind, my only advice is as follows:
1. Give it a good cleaning before you hit the range.
2. Always remember to place the ejector to the "DOWN" position before disassembling or reassembling your P95 (quite a few members here have forgotten this step ).
3. Enjoy the heck out of shooting it :D

Welcome and congrats.

Be sure to keep a firm grip on it. It is known to have issues when limpwristed.

Thank you for the greetings :)

I pick up the P95 tomorrow and will clean it and shoot it short order (and then clean it again). I'll post up a report and some pics by the end of the week.

THat's a function of the ammo or load you're using. That CZ75B platform will run 115's without issues .... trust me.

I agree with you to a point, I'm not sure how many rounds Cracker has shot through his Armalite, so it may not be broken in yet.

...but and although I don't own a CZ clone, I have some fairly decent experience with them and the Armalites and EAA's aren't quite as friendly until broken in as a CZ. Spring thing, fit thing, not sure but I have heard of and seen this before. The clones normally work well after a very short break in period.

I don't bum rap guns hardly ever but the best CZ is a real CZ, IMHO.

I can't argue with you there CW !! But the clones are mostly good guns as well.

The AR-24 (Sarsilmaz Kilinc) is closer to a Witness than to a CZ. That being said, it wasn't until I actually read the manual where it describes how the gun was "designed around 124 grain NATO ammo" that I switched to the heavier ammo. With 1200 rounds through it, I still get one or two stovepipes out of every box of 115 while the 124 feeds without issue. This is one of the reasons I'm buying the P95. I don't want something that goes bang, I want something that goes bang bang bang bang bang bang bang........ :D

Other than being finicky about it's ammo, the AR-24 is a very nice gun with a trigger that's getting better and better with age and it's dead nuts accurate although I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve compared to where I stand shooting wheel guns for 30 years.

Somehow I missed this earlier.

Welcome. You'll love it.

The P95 was delayed two days so I didn't pick it up until yesterday (Thursday) and now I'm away for the weekend with the family and I won't get to the range now until Tuesday.

The delay was caused by my LGS and they knocked $20 off the already agreed upon price without me even asking ($351 out the door) and they threw in a box of 25 JHP SD rounds. :)

I am going to want three more magazines. Is there an aftermarket magazine better than Ruger's or should I stick with Ruger mags??

Thanks again for all the kind welcomes :)

It's been a while since I checked in but here's pics of my new P95. A few comments:
The magazines seem really "gritty" when I'm loading them with my UPLULA. It seemed to be getting better after emptying and reloading them a few times but in my limited semiautomatic experience, it almost seems like there's sandpaper inside inside the magazine or the spring was rusty. My next purchase will be more magazines and I'm going to try a MecGar like I use with my AR24.
Mechanically, the amount of contact area between the frame & slide seems small. Obviously it works but it just seems like there's minimal guide & slide contact.

Upon taking possession of the gun, I inspected it and it appears "flawless" as I would expect a new gun to be (I was worried after reading the SR40 story here). The gun was produced in late Sept. 2010 so it's fresh out of the factory.

I'll post up pics from the range in the next day or two.

Not shown in the pic is the lock that comes with the gun and the ballistics envelope:

FWIW, I take disassemble all new mags and clean the interiors. You'd be amazed at what I've found inside "new, factory" mags (as well as the one Promag I opened that was jammed full of white lithium grease). Do that and you'll probably cure your "grittiness" problem.

Good luck with the P95!

Florida Cracker, the MecGar mags should work out just fine in your P95. From reading here and on other websites, and from my own experiences with my P89, the ONLY mags that seem to work well are Ruger factory and MecGar. Try to find some MecGar flush-fit 17rd mags and have a ball!
