Today was Thursday, the day when Slingshot Charlie's first serves their turnip greens. So Nita and I headed out ton Galaway, Tennessee, for her catfish, turnip greens and purple hull peas. After lunch we took a backroads drive and ended up in the town of Collierville. There is a western store on the town square, and I decided to stop and look for a new belt.
I picked one or two off the rack, and told the clerk there I'd like to try them on, as I needed a fairly stiff one. She said go ahead. I told her I was carrying a gun, and they might want me to be a little discreet.
"No, Sir," she told, "That's fine. Just put it on the counter there and try it on."
No "Make sure its unloaded" or "Clear that thing first." Just "Put it there on the counter..."
So there I stood, trying on belts while a loaded, holstered .45 Blackhawk and cartridge slide reposed on the counter.
