Folks, I have an opportunity to acquire a real pretty Interarms MKX chambered in 358 Norma Mag. It has a beautifully figured Claro Walnut stock. That said, why would I want this rifle?? The 358 Norma is kind of a dinosaur in the cartridge world since the advent of the .338 Win Mag and it is terribly expensive to purchase factory loads.

What say you knowledgeable folks here? Pros and Cons......

Thanks, Dave :)

I cannot comment on the value and such of the rifle, but I will offer that as a teenager of the 70's, I so very much wanted a MKX rifle for myself. I wanted the 30-06 caliber for economic reasons and the ability to handload many ways for the round. The rifle itself was such a beautiful instrument. To me it was a masterpiece in wood and metal. Affordable, accurate and traditional, it possessed all the traits I wished for. I also pined for a Mauser 660 with the interchanging barrels (I believe that's the model number) but knew it was priced well beyond my reach.
If you like the gun and can load for it, and have the financial resources I myself would grab it. Please let us know your decision, and share photos if you buy it! Don

My also pretty, like new, Whitworth custom in .35 Whelen is currently on consignment to Tony Wilcox LLC. If interested, call 540 347 6118.

two ways to look at it.

1. Do you have a need for a caliber/power at the 338WM or 375H&H level?

2. Do you have funds and gun cabinet space for that handsome rifle?

If you can answer yes to one of the above, GET IT and reload!

BTW, the first thing I would have to do is find a gloss dangerous game scope, like Luepold 1-5X20

Dave, you know I would never discourage you from spreading the wealth around. But in this case, I'd say sleep on it for 30 or 40 nights. Last I heard you were down sizing. Did that Cooper come in? :) :)

Yeh, I would be a player in a different caliber, but think I will pass....

And, YES, the Cooper did come in. I intend on getting an appropriate scope mounted on it and getting to the range soon! :D

The old Austrian who taught me gunsmithing absolutely loved that cartridge. He would hold up his hands like he was catching a basketball & tell me "Chon, you vouldent belief it! At 600 meters it makes rrrrocks like this go poof!"

I'd pick the 358 Norma over 338 Win if I was hunting dangerous game. It's a beautiful rifle to be sure, but I'd pass too.

Ha! Get another Cooper in 338-06! There's an elk out there waiting for it!
