I'm sad...

I hear ya GG.

Seems like Santa has forgotten my address ever since I turned 18 or 19 and moved outta Mom's house.
I think it may have something to do with living on a dead end road. Even Santa is leery to come down the road. ;)

But, it is probably more about no family left and no wife or girl friend. If it was not about the celebration of Christ's birth, it would have been just another day.

Actually, presents are mainly for kids,IMO. Christmas eve was enjoyable with friends and the evening service.

Are there no children in your neighborhood or church? Any elderly around? Don't make Christmas come to you, take it to someone.

I ain't going to make any points here. Christmas and the entire month of december has always been the worst of the year for me. Literally all the worst things that I ever experienced always happened in december. Christmas day of 1960 my folks dropped in a lake 14 feet through the ice coming out to see how I was doing. Christmas of 1964 I was caught on the road by a flood in oregon. I darn near got killed on a MC accident about christmas of 1971. I cracked up a airplane december of 1977. My ex wife ran off with our infant daughter and another married man a couple days before christmas of 1985. Believe this or not, I buried four different girl friends in december`s over twenty five years. One of those died of cancer home with me a few days before christmas of 1997. I was writing up a obituary article and checked the local paper how to do it and there was a picture of a girlfriend from twenty years prior in the paper! Went to that funeral too. In 1999 I wiped out my Lincoln MK IV. In 2000 it was a pulmonary embolism, two years ago two heart stents a couple days before christmas. I recall other bad stuff too. I am not a sentimental or touchy feely type guy to start with. I get sick of nothing on tv the entire month of december but touchy feely movies that my wife stays glued to. Merle Haggard wrote this song, "If we make it through december" just for me.

Through it all I still am here. I should have been dead more times than I can count too, so its pretty much evened out.
I was going to go on this gambler special flight that crashed in 1969 but some overtime came up so I and a girlfriend cancelled out. We had done it new years eve a few weeks before, had good luck and was going to go again.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawthorne_Nevada_Airlines_Flight_708 I shouldn't have complained. I just never could get all enthused about christmas like many people do for many years. In fact I never took a christmas off at work for the 35 years I was a guard. I always had the seniority and chance to work for triple time on graveyard. Got paid for the holiday and double time on top of that for going in. On top of that most of those christmas`s I pulled day shift after my graveyard shift and effectively got a full weeks pay! Then I would take a couple days off later. I didn't take over a couple holidays off in 35 years. All the other company holidays were the same deal. In fact they didn't want to give me time off when I got married the first time. I made a deal with my captain to work my two days off and then got married in our living room when I came home from work, then we went on our honeymoon. I can hardly remember it I was so tired. No wonder she ran off. It was a wild three years or so. I figure I averaged over 60 hours a week for 35 years on that job. I was there longer than I was old when I retired if you figured a 40 hour work week. My supports were figured on that and then I HAD to take every drop of OT just to eat until I retired. Yeah, I still get bitter when I think of it.

Don't think about the past, you can't change the past.
Don't think about the future, the future is unknown.
Don't think about the present, I didn't send you one.

Christmas of 1963 I took a bus from Texas to Wisconsin for the holidays. I was changing bus`s in chicago and got pick pocketed. That caused me to also miss my connection. Ended up in a flop house on skid row. It was colder than hell and got strep throat. Christmas of 1962 I was driving from Louisiana to Wisconsin. I stopped on the outskirts of Chicago for supper, came out and found I locked my keys in my car. The restaurant was closing so I decided to stay in a nearby motel. The next morning I got a coat hanger and was trying to hook the keys out but lost them in the car. There was a number of people giving me advice. One popped off look at that big gun he`s got! Sure enough my revolver that had been under the seat had slid forward in plain sight! I just said, "Hell yes, everything I own is in that car! Fortunately no one ratted me. A preacher took me to a chevy dealer he knew and we got a huge ring of keys and one fit. I swear I had bad luck every time I went through chicago. Another time we got snowed in at O`hare and I spent the night of dec 23rd trying to sleep on a bench.

We were only planning on a dinner this year, but my nephew and his family also brought presents for us. In my case, a Crown Royal gift box.

So I'm feeling pretty happy.

I don't know if it was christmas or not but winter of 1947 there was a blizzard and there was no traffic on the highway. There was a knock on the door and a poor Indian family traveling through was stranded, broke and out of gas in the middle of the night. I recall their old car was about a 1934 ford. It was a man, wife and I recall at least two or three young kids about my age at the time. The man wanted to give my dad a handful of 30/30 shells, they were that broke! The folks took them in and outfitted them with whatever.

Adults buy what they want when they want it or themselves. No need to give presents to adults. Christmas is for Christ and kids.

Well, not too sure about that. I give my wife gifts at times, just sort of saying "I love you" or "I thought about you" and much the same for my relatives, my sister and nieces.
Just something especially for them, or serves as a token of love, friendship or respect. Doesn't have to be a "need" or a "want". Just "I thought of you."

Wise men brought gifts to the One who holds the whole world. Out of respect and tribute, they gave.

Geez BB you sound like the boys on Hee Haw wrote the song about you! You know the one that goes " if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all..."

If you mean me, I am sorry I gave the wrong impression. I have had tons and tons of good luck and most of it I wouldn't have got had I not went through what I thought bad luck at the time. For instance, my first wife wiped me out. Still, I wouldn't have met my new wife were it not for being "delayed" timewise by the first wife. My wife is almost seventeen years younger than me and takes good care of me in my waning years.
I have often wondered what WOULD have happened had I avoided this or that. I have come to the conclusion had I avoided a lot of bad events, it just probably would have freed me up to make worse mistakes or something different might have killed me long ago. The real end result up to now is I have made a lot of stupid mistakes and God has rescued me out of all of them. I feel like a pin ball being bounced through one of those old pinball machines they had years ago. I wish I could write more accurately.
