If you could only have ONE Ruger #1, what would it be, and why? No safe queens. We're talking shooters, no collector fodder, or custom chamberings.
My choice may surprise you, a Ruger #1 in 30-30. Ammo could be found probably anywhere in the world 24-7. Easy to shoot and may be the finest production gun ever produced in this caliber? I'll probably be the only one behind this choice.
Your turn.

I doubt you'll be the only one. A fine choice.

My choice is my stainless 1B in 25-06. Bad news for whitetails and coyotes alike. I have not used it for hunting anything bigger than whitetails but load a 25-06 with a 120gr. and I think you'd be ok for most game out there. It's no "safe queen" either. It gets hunted and hunted hard but when tbe barrel is clean you'd have a hard time telling it from new. One tough rifle!!

Very tough choice for me, my 25/06B is a great shooter but I think I'd have to go with the 6.5x55 "A" just for pure gorgeousness and great functionality. A 30-30 "A" is right up there, in the No. 1 it could easily be loaded much hotter if truly necessary while factory fodder would handle stuff inside of 200 yards.

k1-b-bbz In 270 win. I know the purists don't like them, but they are in my opinon that bit tougher and a little bit more resistant to the elements when hunting. An besides if you had a nice bit of walnut that got banged up you ain't going to be happy.

K1A 6.5x55 Swede. I love walnut and stainless. Seal the wood good and the stainless is good to go in foul weather. The Swede is easy on the shoulder and like the Hammer of Thor on the receiving end.

I love my b in 2506 and would never part with it. Dont have a international but think there about the prettiest rifle going. Want a 257 blued walnut 1a real bad but money is short. Make my dream #1 and it would be an international in 257 roberts or 250 sav. No stainless please.

I am glad this is just a hypothetical question, because I can hardly imagine myself with just one No.1!
But if I had to pick just one to hunt with, it would be my 2006 Lipsey's Exclusive in .25-06; the one with the 24" Lightweight barrel, Alex Henry forearm, no sights, and stocked with Circassian. It has a matte 2.5x8 Leupold with the B&C reticule and is mounted with a pair of the early(low) vertical split rings.
Note that the .25-06 is 4/9 so far!

I'll go a little heavier. 9.3 x 74R, Leupold VXIII, 1.5 x 5. Love this cartridge! Can go up to almost a .375 mag, load it down to less than a full house '06. Just wish the bullet selection was a little better. Coogs.

280 rem 1B. My first and still the best of the lot. None of the others have brought down a 16 pointer, yet.

I do only have one #1 and it is a 9.3x74r. It is a beautiful rifle and the cartridge is very appropriate for a fine classic single shot. TTT

I also really like my stainless #1 25/06. If you like #1's and Ruger Stainless how could you go wrong.
