ID please.

they have just open a Tractor Supply in my home town and since it opened I have been stopping there to get pickup things I needed. Today I picked up a can of spray wire rope lube along with some sawall blades.

After I had swiped my credit cart, the girl turned and asked for ID and birthday. As I reached for the wallet for drivers license, I did rattle of birthday as she typed it int the register....THEN IT HIT ME...I asked her to void out the transaction. the clerk, alone with others in the line said that was because I wanted to buy an aerosil product!

Is this true that they now require ID to buy?

I am pretty sure I bought a can of WD40 last week and hope I didn't provide with out thinking about it. Tommorrow I'll try Lowes and see if

I shop at both Lowes and Tractor Supply,...and have never been asked for ID or birthday. If I am ever asked for that info, I decline. None of their business.

The clerk removed the wire rope lube and procedded to ring me up with out providing birthday and ID, but I polietly told her I would put my items back.
If it truely was to prevent the sale of aerosal spray to minors and they don't verify with ID I will just give 1/1/90 next time. Insteaded of being checked to see if I was old enough, they should be offering a Senior Citizen discount!

For there marketing list they have been asking for zip code. And for determining the demographics of there customers it might be inapproated to ask if one is in an age range.

Last year, I walked into a (National chain) SuperCuts shop for a quick $8 haircut, but refused & walked out when they asked for my SSN ! ! . :shock:

Some Home Depot stores are checking ID for spray cans. Must be 18 to buy it. Again the good people paying the price for the bad people.

Well it was reported on the news that if you use a credit card to pay, they have your name. With the zip code they can narrow it down to your address. Then sell your information to marketing companies. Evidently the only place allowed to ask your billing zip code is the gas pump.

In many jurisdictions, including where I live, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, firearms, ammunition, certain chemicals and a host of other items, are regulated and sale is prohibited to minors. Many retailers require cashiers to demand proof of age and most cash registers prompt the cashier to ask when products that are regulated are scanned. The cashier is only following the law and policy of the retail store. Even if you are a senior citizen, you are still required to prove it, in most cases.

I don't get upset about being asked for my driver's license or other government document for the purpose of proving who I am and/or my age. Inconvenient, yes, but those regulations and policies are usually in place for a good reason and like it or not, this is the way it is in the society we live in. If it helps uphold the law by making it a little harder for lawbreakers or by helping to identify them, then I'm for it.

Walmart and Lowes all the time, though usually they don't bother to ask if I'm over 18. lol

Flammables, adhesives, paints.... Anything kids with huff or cause damage to themselves or other people's propperty with.

I made the girl laugh at Walmart one day when it kept going off and I said sheepishly "I only buy bad stuff." :oops:
(I had shotgun shells, spray paint, paint thinner, brake cleaner, and epoxy and it beeped and asked "over 18?" for each one.)

As soon as someone here told me a good way to circumvent the DL info is to take a strong magnet to the back of the card. I've done that several times.

Lowes did not have the wire rope lube, asking the cashier about requiring ID for arosals, she said they can't sell some if under 18, but did not ask for ID nor DOB. Did buy the same product at Advance Auto...no questions and no notice on the computer screen. Must be a Tractor Supply thing
