Someone on one of the boards posted an ad from PSA for SR1911 lightweight commanders for $599. I immediately checked it out and it was legitimate. And though I've been trying to be thrifty, I later decided to spring for it. Out of Stock!
Now I was really wanting a commander size 1911. So I went shopping. Being thrifty I checked RIA and similar and they just weren't for me.
I carried a commander size 1911, either Kimber or Ruger for many years, so I'm kinda picky about 1911's. Over the years I've had some pretty nice 1911's and I missed having one on my hip, it's an old friend.
The two best 1911's I ever had was a les Baer 5" and an original Dan Wesson C-Bob which I still miss. Anyway back to shopping.
It finally came down to the Ruger lightweight, a Springfield Garrison and either a Colt Combat Commander or a Colt Lightweight Commander.
The Springer was a fast elimination so it came down to the Ruger or one of the two Colts. "Combat Commander" sounds really cool but I'd rather have less weight hanging off my narrow azz hips.
So I opted for the lightweight commander for only $10. more than the Ruger with $25 bucks shipping. The Ruger was a ridiculous $89. for shipping.
I initially felt like I was somehow betraying Ruger but I've always wanted a Colt Commander and the lightweight will fill the bill. I'm also 75 so if I don't get it now, when?
It's only my second ever Colt, first was a Mk III 6" Trooper that I stupidly sold before I knew better.
