I recently went in to the local Pawn shop looking for a Smith 25 .45lc. I did not find one but did find a super nice Ruger Blackhawk SRM .357 Maximum with 7.5" @98% no box but did come with a nice holster and belt rig. I put it on layaway. total cost $500
I think I scored a pretty good deal

I'll post pics in a couple of weeks when it comes home

I also think you scored a pretty good deal!

Yow-suh! Figure $100 for the leather, at least. :D

Good for you! Thanks for sharing the great story.

Looking forward to the pics.

You did real good-The used ones I have seen are not even close to 98% and cost a lot more.
Still looking

Winchester 348,

It was definitely your day, way to go! Your handle reminded me of a similar score: I bought my first Mod 71, 348 deluxe model for $500. It's been awhile but even then they were going for something north of $1200.

Love that gun for many reasons! Always good to run into another fan. I know you know the 358 was winchester's 348 replacement (open to opinion) cartridge for the bolt action, then in the early '80s modified it to the 356 with a rim for their Big Bore 94. I just recently picked one up w/o the cross bolt safety. It's quite a thumper but I can't wait for Hornady to come out with Leverevolution bullets for it with their polymer tip so I can load it to it's full potential and range. Of course I'd love to get some for my 348 as well! I know they sure improved my 30-30 performance.

Yes the .348 Winchester is my favorite cool cartridge. In the mid 80's when I was a teenager I worked in a gun shop after school. A fellow came in with a box of assorted cartridges his friend had collected since the 30s. you name it it was in there. From .22 savage Hs to .577 snyder. One cartridge that I found was a .348 Winchester round from Remington. I had never heard of it, so I researched it and decided one day I will have one. A few years later Browning came out with the repro. I wanted one bad but could not come up with the @$600 that they cost wholesale. skip forward nearly twenty years. After several almost having ones, I saved up some cash and bought a repro Browning off of the Internet for @$800 almost new in the box. a few months later I found a Winchester on Auctionarms for $800 buy it now. I felt I got a deal on both but the satisfaction of finally getting one after 20+ years was worth every penny.

I know what you mean. I bought a Browning about 8 years ago also. I always wanted a model 71 carbine w/ 20" barrel and never could find a Winchester. The browning carbine cost me $500 and looked like new. It came with the box, dies 200 rounds of brass and 300 Barnes bullets. I shoot it more than my Winch. Since it came drilled and tapped for receiver sights I put a Lyman peep sight on it like my Winch has.

My SRM 357 Maximum finally made it home

Didn't last long

You still see some at shows occasionally, but it's REAL pricey.

The "real deal" for the Maxis is the heavy-bullet loadings with proper powders. Avoids the cutting and erosion.

200-grains and up work well.

:)
