Red eared sliders are the most common turtle just about anywhere. They were introduced into Europe and have pretty well extincted/replaced many of the local turtle species. Most were pets that got too big and were released into the wild. I've seen them in Sicily, and all over Southern Europe. They live a long time, eat just about anything, and reproduce like crazy; kinda the carp of the turtle world. Prettier, tho!
