Today was our Senior Saints luncheon at my church, and the theme was a western round up. A friend of mine was to play Home on the Range on the harmonica, and as he got up to play, announced that he was to accompany me. And we did Home On The Range, and I sang the solo, both verses that I know, much to the surprise and amusement of all present, including my wife.

To be frank with you, I surprised myself. I was self conscious for a second or two, but something clicked and there I was singing away.

You need to go watch more old Roy Rogers films and a few of the other old "cowboy" heroes flicks.

On some great pictures too!! (Note: My Great Grandmother use to talk about living on the range in a sod hut like they show in this video)

#2. Then some lyrics:

John Denver Lyrics
"Home On The Range"

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

The red man was pressed from this part of the west
It's not likely he'll ever return
To the banks of Red River where seldom if ever
His flickering campfires still burn

Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

How often at night when the heavens are bright
I see the light of those flickering stars
Have I laid there amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of love

Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Hi,

Thanks for the lyrics, Pamela!

I always thought it started out

"Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam
And the deer and the antelope play...

And I'll show you a messy house!" ;)
