It's the strangest thing , but every time I go to sell a bike it's like I have the plague or something. I'm asking a reasonable price for it , but only a few offers and they want it for 1/2 what it's worth. With my 2001 Aprilia Furtura, My 2002 Aprilia VRS 1,000, my 2005 Suzuki C90 Boulevard, my 1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture and now my 2006 Honda VFR 800 , when I didn't want to sell them , people at stop lights would ask me " Hey Man, you wanna sell that bike?
I was asking $6275.00 for this bike, now I've dropped to $5800.00 .Bikes of the same year with 30,000+ miles on them are selling for that . My bike only has 5,200 miles on it and looks brand new .
One guy had the stones to ask me if Id take $3,750.00 for it!!!.
I'll let that thing rot into a rust stain on the floor of my garage before for one red cent less than $5,800.00 .

My luck seems much like yours.
I usually buy high from the necessity or urgency and end up selling at almost scrap prices.
My father on the other hand seems to almost always buy low and sell high.

It's hard to hit it just right to get what you want and the economy has been bad (for a lot of folks) for years. On CL,I've had to list-delete-relist/lower several times. Good luck with it.

...so it's NOT just 'me'......the 'buy high-sell low' theory of economics is being utilized by others!!!

Once I had a marvelous truck which was well used and past its prime. Given a slightly rare-ish model, I was continually getting the 'Puhleeze sell this to me' routine. Finally I decided to let it go. No takers at a very reasonable price. Determined to follow the market, I had to raise the price twice PLUS squirt a little primer on a few places. Some guy finally gave me about 30% more than what I had started at, after I let him talk my price down a bit. We all were happy.

Lou, that's what I was going to say... raise the price above your first price due to your low mileage and then you have room to PLAY !!!

Just a perspective, buying private equals no warranted in most cases.
A dealer gets full retail usually with some kind of warrantee with it.
Another point is buying a new one can be easier thru a dealer than buying used.

Selling private sale can test ones patients ps

I know how you feelLou. I have a beautiful Champion bass boat for sale. All I get are low ball offers sight unseen.

It is worth...what someone will pay at the time you are wanting to sell...and it will only be worth less as you continue to hold it. We have all had things like this, just hard to explain the workings of the market for things such as this.

Yesterday, I saw a nice looking 1998 F-150 Ford XLT for sale at a lot by a major intersection; No Price, but the sign said it only had 64,000 miles. If I had some loose change, I might have stopped to look and call.

I am also always of the wrong end of the stick. Whenever I needed to sell something I must have had a big X on my forehead.
It is easier to buy from a dealer, they have banks. Joe average ain't got extra cash laying around anymore.

Used bike market sucks right especially on imports. Tons of deals right now on new. So unless they can get a used one at stealing prices most are going new.

Well on bout Crigslidt and cycletrsder 2006 VFR 800 WITH 30,000+ MILES on them are selling for an average of $6,300.00 . These bikes have a cult following and bring a bit more than your average croch rocket ,so at $5,800.00. its s steal .Like I said other than scammers trying to get me to accept Pay Pal and WILL NOT call me and every one says they will have their shipping agent pick up the bike I've only had the one guy offer me half what then bikes is worth.
BTW that Blue Book of bike/ var values is full of yugo, their talking an average bike or car ,in the case of a car average miles of 15,000 miles a year , for bikes its 5,000 miles a year so my bike is way above average it would fall in the exelent range and there fore command a peramium price . Basicaly my bike usage wise is one year old so even at my starting price of $6275.00 is a fair asking price acording to what the market price is for my bike ,in fact its a real good price .I used to sell new cars for a living and know exactly how that book works.
You try talikg your car to any dealer and ask the " Blue Book" value for your car and you'll waste your day and gas riding around and you won't sell your car at what the all knowing Blue Book. Says you should get for it .. What you see in that book is a high retail price NOT a wholesale price which is exactly what a dealer is going to offer you for your car.
My asking price is low retail for its age and millage .I know how the game is played and folks look at that blue book as gospel and its a guide to an average car with avsrge mail s and dealer is gonna low ball you every time ,their looking to maximize their profit margin .
I'm not ,I'm asking a fair price for my bike .
If you don't beilve me pick a middle of the road car ,say a 2013 Ford Focus with 30,000 miles on it and then go to Car max find the same car with the same options and millage and their going to be about 1,.000 higher than what that book tells you you can buy that car for, heres a secret the dealers use that book too to LOWBALL YOU ON THE PRICE OF YOU CAR AND TO HIGH BALL YOU ON THE PRICE OF THEIR CAR.
I know the game and my bike is worth $5,800.00 easy in fact if I didn't need the money, I wouldn't huge off my original &6,275.00 asking price .
