That ugly thing under the hammer sticks out on hand, I would like to shorten it and make it thinner,

You mean the grip safety? I tossed mine and replaced it with a Wilson Combat drop in Beavertail and a skeletonized hammer.

Another question the firing pin when lubing, spray lube I use BF, if I lube too much can any bad stuff can happen.
Read one comment be very careful there, did not specify exactly why.

Virtually anything . . can . . happen, but after about 40 years, do you think
that "enhancement" would still be made if it were a real concern? :shock:

When you look through Brownells or Midways website one can see there are many options to change a 1911 if you don't like it the way it is. Of course on a lot of the parts you may need the services of a gunsmith unless you are one.

I aint no gunsmith and fit all my parts, gunsmithing aint rocket science, they just have better tools than we do.

Just found floating out there a how to do it from 36 years ago.
Modify thin out the beavertail and grind some metal off bottom of the hammer,will most certainly reduce lock time,mmm.
Someone said they wanted a super shiny finish,DONT, when a hair falls from my head,lands on the slide,"it makes a hair line scratch.

I didn't grinding on my gun, installing a Wilson Combat drop in beavertail and hammer they required zero fitting and grinding, it was just changing out parts, I also replaced the GI trigger with a Ruger trigger that fit right in and works perfect, the part that caused me the most work was fitting and installing a competition match barrel bushing, that was a real job to do by hand and took hours, I used a stainless bushing so I could just polish it after fitting it looks real good on a black gun.

I wouldn't rely on 36 year old info. to enhance a 1911 things have changed since then there are now lots of after market parts available and better ways to do things.

behind me now yelling ASH GET AWAY, MY THER DAUGHTER 5 and 7, his hand was going for the neckless on my wifes neck, so I thought, thumb on hammer I shoved it a foot away from the center of his nose, ASH knocked into him his eyeballs I swear,
came together on the shiny barrels,fixated, so he said as he fell to his knees, I wasn't going to do anything, a guy with his family next to me said, pull the trigger, no one around here will know the difference, he pulled out a small 2" 38.half a grip, the poor guy wet his pants crying, all because shiny shiny.
