I am retired so I really don't look forward to longevity or merit raises, but I got a nice increase in my retirement. I always log into the bank to make sure my direct deposit has been deposited before I start writing any checks, and today the amount was more than it should have been. I soon realized it was due to the Trump tax cuts. Thank you Mr. President.

No, you just got more of what was yours all along, but the government kept borrowing it.

Last time I had a 'real job' and worked for the man (big non profit corporation) everybody got a 5% raise.... I realized the president of the companies' raise was more than I made in a year.

These comments remind me of Pelosi saying a thousand dollar bonus is insignificant. I got a raise. I will have more money to spend. Since it was a tax cut, it affects most of the people across the country. If everybody has more money to spend, they will buy more. If people buy more, manufacturing will increase. If manufacturing increases, employment will increase. Is this still insignificant?

My wife got her tax cut last week and I got mine this week, the amount will pay for all the gas we buy for our cars every month plus a couple of hundred rounds of .22's

A friend, who works for a school district that gets paid monthly, saw a $146.00 increase on her first check of the year.......I have not checked mine yet......

...and later on down the road a few years?

What is it the mechanics used to say, Pay me now or Pay me later. The government will always get it's money. With the National Debt at 20 Trillion it has got to come from somewhere. What ever happened to Zero-Sum legislation. :D

I remember the Bush $1,000 rebate/refund that everyone got to spend on the economy. Almost worked. :D

First off, it's my money. Second, cut spending, there's seven families on my street, only four of them have someone in the house with a job. Push 'em out of the wagon and make 'em start pulling.

I'm not really up on all this.. how do you get more money directly from a tax cut? Seems that would come as not paying as much in taxes when ever you have to dish those out?

Because it STAYS in YOUR pocket in the first place and NOT THAT of some bureaucratic big spending liberal moron's pocket.

Ask your buddy Obama who in 8 years more than doubled the national debt and we have NOTHING to show for it.

Company I worked for back in the 70s decided that in lieu of % raise they would just give a $300 raise to everyone. We peons were pleased.

For over 35 years I have given a bonus to all of my employees each year end, based on a percent pf the profits we made during the years. There have been only 7 years when there was no bonus for the reason that my business never made a profit those years. Six of those years were after the Ethanol Subsidy took effect and the resulting crash in the feeder cattle prices lost money for ranchers.

Obamacare cost my employees based on the adjustment we had to make for the Health Insurance that I buy for all of my employees. The Obamacare adjustment made a net reduction in the bonus that I paid although I still pay a bonus after Christmas each year.

If I remember, something like 47% pay nothing and many of those receive a windfall in earned income credit.

Why is it the poor get poorer and the rich get richer?

The "poor" aren't getting poorer, that's a flat out lie.
You must be talking minimum wage ($2.25/hr > $7.25/hr) instead of wealth distribution.

Not a clue, however my auto deposits, from two different sources, totaled almost $47.00 more this month. Now it isn't earth shattering but I'll gladly take it.

The rich get richer because they typically work harder and seem to be driven to achieve. Or they simply work smarter.

The "poor" on the other hand have had any determination, pride or drive breed out of them. It is now perfectly acceptable to a large percentage of the population to simply live off the government. Poor is not really poor when you are perfectly content to live in subsidized housing, enjoy a free phone, medical care, and most recently, at least in Henderson KY, free tax prep at the Housing Authority office. I guess I work with some "poor" as well. They usually are the volunteers to leave early, miss as many days as possible and still stay on the job and cry because the company won't give a bigger raise.

It don't fly with me, this poor business. If your'e poor in this country it's usually by choice and all the NYT articles in the world will not convince me otherwise.
