I'm sure this subject has come up before, but for some reason I couldn't find it in the search function. I want to polish my GP100 to a mirror shine (chromelike). I've read that Mother's Mag Wheel Polish and some elbow grease will do the trick. Is this correct? Also, do I have to worry about polishing the SN away?

As for upkeep of the shine, I shoot this gun quite regularly. Is the finish going to last or will I have to re-polish it frequently?

Thanks.

I polished up my GP100 with Mother's today.

It actually doesn't take a lot of work, and I will buff mine ever once in a while just to get any grime off.

Gives it a nice shine, and no, it won't alter the frame markings..

Do not use a Dremel that can cause more harm than good.

Yes their are lots of posts to this, but the best way is a bench buffing wheel on a bench grinder or buffer, with some rouge for S/S usally the white stick, fast clean, easy, same way Ruger would do it at the factory.

stay away from ANY "power tools" unless you know how and have the touch, seen way too many over buffed, rounded out and the corners rounded, and the holes and letters "washed" out......take your time, by hand and the Mothers will work just fine, finish it off using one of those 'micro fiber' cloths and you will be amazed........good luck

I second rugerguy, no power tools!! Use your hands and a couple of rags, a cold beer or two and a good movie..and voila..a highly shined piece of SS art work. Be sure to use it on the face of the cylinder, it removes all of the black rings too. You could post up a couple of before and after pics just to make us drool you know!!

Yes cold beer make's it go better, but the only thing you can do with a bench buffer is make it shiney won't hirt a thing or remove any metal.
When you see dips and rounded off corners on a gun someone did that with sand paper before buffing,
Buffing is just a power polishing cloth, I can run my hand on it and it don't do anything.
Don't be afraid to use the buffer it is your best tool.

I tryed the micro fiber cloth and mothers wheel polish, fitz and all that crap and my guns were still dull and scratched after hours of polishing by hand.
That's when I did the bench buffing and the guns turned glass smooth and mirror bright with all scratches gone I do this with all my Vaquero's and blackhawks, have never done any damage what so ever to any of them, buff over the lettering and buff corners, and my lettering is all still like the day they were new and corners square as new.
YOU CAN NOT HURT YOUR GUN WITH A BUFFER

Buffing with a power buffing wheel will turn your nice Ruger into a Taurus. Remember you heard it here first.

your wrong, you never used one have you?
What you guys think Ruger has elfs to polishs guns by hand all night or something so the line don't get behind, no they polish them the same way I do with a buffing machine.
