When I was 16 my younger sister was 6. She had gotten a kitten which soon disappeared. We thought it had just run away until we got a call from a neighbor. The neighbor saw two kids throw the kitten out of a two story window a few times until dead. No I'm not a cat lover, but when Mom told me what happened and who did it, needless to say I was a little pissed off. I knew who the kids were since they were my age and it was a small town. I found each one of them and gave each of them a REALLY MEAN ass whipping (broken noses were involved) that they probably still remember to this day. I was pretty strong just form doing manual labor and Dad taught me boxing since he fought Club Fights and Golden Glove. He was a pretty good instructor and taught me well, and we spared quite a bit :)
As you can imagine both moms called my mom and made a few threats that involved the police. After mom explained in not a very nice way what happened never heard anymore from them.
Everytime those kids saw me they would try and hide.

When I was a young kid I had a friend up the road I always hung with. They had several outside cats. I went up there to see if he wanted to go fishing. He had a box of kittens and a pail of water. His mother told him he couldn't go anywhere until he drowned all the kittens. He said it wouldn't take as long if I helped him. He grabbed one and started to dunk it. I couldn't even watch. His brother was the same way.

They'd catch fish and they'd spin them around on the line and smash them into trees. Same with turtles and frogs. They thought it was funny to stick a firecracker in a frog's mouth and kill it. I could never watch. Around 15 or so we went out separate ways.

Bragger, the cat drowner, became a heroin addict. I found out around 2002 that he died of a heroin overdose in 2000. He was a lost soul from early on

Those folks are out there, everywhere. The day you meet one may be a turning point in your life.
If they have moved on to people and we meet, I'm betting it will be a turning point in my life. And perhaps an ending point to theirs. I don't take well to being choked or stomped.

Before the ass whipping took place I asked them why they did it.
Well the Einsteins wanted to know if the kitten would land on its feet from that high up. Way WRONG answer.
I suspected that was the case when I read your initial post.
We all know that a cat can always land on its feet. I have read, but can't remember where, that there is a height where a cat will die even though it has managed to land on its feet. Above that height, they will still survive. Apparently above a certain height, they can flip feet down, and will naturally go into a spread-eagled position, like a skydiver. This will manage to slow them down enough that they can land on their feet and are strong enough to survive.
I think this was an article I read about cats falling out of windows in New York City. Not sure how they arrived at that conclusion. Hopefully it wasn't from throwing cats out windows.

Not a pet story - but
When I was in Gramer school maybe 6th or 7th grade.
I walked to school every day and when I got to a certain spot an older boy (Billy Turner) in 8th grade would hit me or slap me. It came the time I had enough, and, on that day, I hit him back knocked him down and kicked him multiple times while was down. I don't think I ever saw him after that. But I sure felt good!

Jim,, reading about how you "re-educated" those two boys,, made me smile. Too bad that kind of thing isn't done more often.
When I worked in a maximum security prison there were a couple of pieces of human garbage that were sentenced for harming animals at an animal sanctuary. As bad as some prisoners can be there are some that will not abide anyone who would mistreat an animal or child or woman. With a little ingenuity on the part of the inmate movement officer both of those scumbags got celled with some very large cell mates who took a very dim view of someone who would mistreat an animal. The "education" they received left a lasting impression in many ways.

I remember finding a carpet bag during a draught, that was full of puppie bones. It made me sad, one of those things you never forget.

I can’t even imagine stomping a pet to death, or drowning one.

I’ve stepped on dead rodents by accident and the sound and feel is disturbing.

People fish with live mice. I couldn’t do it. I even feel bad hooking a worm.

I’ve killed things that needed killing, and I always felt bad. I do what needs doing, but I don’t ever want to stop feeling bad about it.

There are some truly sick people walking around out there. You can almost bet they weren't PETA.
Actually they could have been. During a fair one year we were approached by someone from the fair because we looked suspicious. Turns out PETA was poisoning the rabbits to discourage people owning animals. Yes they are sick.

I know I would not lose sleep if anytime behind bars his new friend decide to stomp him. Like in Big Jake when McCandless son says he will not shoot a deer to prove a point and Big Jake tells him you kill for protection or for food and they need meat. This weirdo at the pet shop was not doing either of those.

Almost all serial killers and/or mass murderers started out torturing and killing family pets and other animals.
