How do you ship guns

How does everyone ship guns ?
I have been using the same FFL for years to ship guns for me.
He has always been the cheapest way I could ship.
The other day I had him ship a gun for me and the cost was ridiculous.
I was already committed so I paid his price.

So I need to find a better way.
There is a website called shipmyguns . It looks reasonable , but I can't see if there are any extra fees anywhere .
Has anyone used them or know a better way to ship guns ?

I have a bunch I want to sell , but the cost of shipping makes it not worth it.

So anyway , how do you do it without breaking the bank.

That is how he used to ship.
Now for some reason he only wants to use FedEx.
Rifles are what I am more interested in shipping right now.

I've used ShipMyGun.com numerous times with no problems, and it usually ends up being much less expensive than the FFL to FFL route.

Are there any other fees besides what they quote for shipping ?
I can't see anywhere that it talks about fees.

No, the cost quoted includes shipping and their service as FFL. I recently sold two guns at different times to a guy in AZ, using my local FFL for one and SMG.com for the other, and the difference was around $25. Seems the typical SMG.com cost runs $40-$45 for a handgun. Haven't tried it for a long gun yet.

I have used SMG too with no issues. There are no extra fees that I know of.
Most of the time now I ship USPS. I do handle shipping for my customers on occasion, I charge them whatever it costs me and my regular transfer fee.

For long guns, yes. It is perfectly legal for a non FFL to use the post office. Go to their website print off the rules and take them with you. Some of the counter people don’t know their own rules. Be polite. If there is a way to make the overall package smaller, I recommend it.

And don't necessarily advertise where it's going to. Use initials.
I always get the insurance although I don't know how much good it will do me.

SMG works with UPS. The seller completes and pays for the order and SMG emails a shipping label. Attach the label to the box to be shipped and just drop it off at a UPS store, although I experienced a slight bump in the process recently. The buyers' desired transferring FFL wasn't on the SMG list, so I requested a copy of the license and then forwarded it to SMG to add to their list...problem resolved. Anyway I've successfully used the service at least a dozen times and saved a pretty good chunk of change doing so.

FedEx and UPS require "next day" shipping for handguns, which is expensive. They might as well for long guns but I would never use either for long guns when you can ship them to any FFL through USPS Priority for a fraction of the cost. You can even mail a long gun to a non-ffl, if in the same state, unless your state has specific limitations.

UPS went to overnight years ago to combat INTERNAL theft. I think FedEx did just because they could since UPS was already doing it.

I ship USPS With a copy of my DL and CWP to their FFL. If their FFL will only accept from FFL it is 30.00 extra (that is what he charges for transfer).

When shipping long guns, either FedEx or USPS. The big thing is keeping the overall length of the box under 50". Prices almost double when you go over the 50" mark. I do all the shipping for a local gun shop. And I'll break a gun down if I have to, to get it under 50" Also if your shipping to a real rural area, they tend to charge a little more. I ship all long guns FedEx, and all handguns in a USPS if it fits, it ships box. Mostly the medium size box.

Actually it is 48" maximum for UPS and FedEx before the surcharge now. If you go over 96" they get really greedy.

I ship a lot of wood mouldings that require long boxes and even a box that is labeled 48" long will get the surcharge if barely 1/4" over 48" when taped up.
