Not for me.
My son just got a job in Houston. Starts in February, but he's going down in January to look for a place to live.
He'll be working in/around the Johnson Space Center.
What areas should he focus on for an apartment?
Whats areas should he avoid?

The JSC is 20-25 miles south of downtown Houston. Unless he wants to put up with rush-hour traffic and a long commute from Houston, I suggest the Clear Lake/Webster or Kemah areas, which are close to JSC. I would avoid the Pasadena area, which is also south of Houston, and most of the areas west of I-45 South. One exception is the Friendswood area just west of I-45 South.

If he's a young single guy and wants to be in the action in and around Houston, he should be prepared for higher rents inside Loop 610 or else look around the areas west of Houston outside the Loop, although that would give him an even longer commute. Stay away from the areas east of Houston. I'm in a suburb 25 miles north of Houston, which would double his commute.

Best of luck to your son. Hope he enjoys it down here. There are lots of fishing and boating opportunities relatively near his job.

Guys...thanks for the input.
I have passed the info along.
He has started looking at places (online) and is focusing on a couple of apt complexes in Clear Lake.
Again...thanks for the advice.
Much appreciated.
