HOT COFFEE MAKERS

I have almost always ground my own coffee beans. I even keep a spare grinder up in the closet. I always had one til now.
SHE on the other hand likes it easy. We (no longer means me) uses keurid, the little plastic coffee holder never enough coffee in it, never hot enough to make good coffee. I WANT PEACE I want my coffee, I drink my coffee black and hot, then there
is her mixture, 3 yellow make believe sugar subs, fills mug with milk, straight from fridge. I measured temp a ew days ago
170 at mouth. machine says 190, company says that means inside machine after leaving heater bin by the time it hits the coffee should be about 170 that doesn't make good coffee, we don't have more room for any more machines.
I accidentally commented the other day quietly, what happened to my toaster? twice I politely asked againWHERE IS MY TOASTER I gave it away, I noticed WHY??? why I saw this green one thought we needed a new one. she didn't flinch
move kept drinking her cold crap in the mug. Picked up the green thing, made in china mine was made here no answer
want my coffee back theres no room its 630 am YOU CAN ALWAYS MOVE IN WITH KENNY my brother lives on a small horse ranch with his GOLDEN always thanks him for sharing his jello at night wife died 8 years ago.
If I place a percul on the stove it will sit there a war will come what say you dare I push it

Some Keurigs have a place in the program to set the brew temperature. Mine does. Set it hotter.

Also, you can buy the filter adapter cup to fit the Keurig and use your own ground coffee.

Also, there should be a cup size option. Make the coffee as strong or as weak as you like.

I thought the Keurig was just a gimmick at first, but my kids gave me one and it has become very convenient, as we can make the amount of coffee we want, when we want it. No wasting a pot full that doesn't get drunk.

Your post just reminded me; I must go fix my toaster.

Someone gave my wife a Keurig. We don't use it. We have been using a Bunn coffee maker for years. The first one died & I didn't want to spend the cash to get another. Next thing I knew she got me one for Christmas. She likes that it keeps a reservoir of hot water ready & will make a cup of coffee in about 3 minutes. I don't have a percolator like the one we had when I was a kid but I do have a 30 cup percolator I picked up at an estate sale in the garage. It is crazy how much less coffee a percolator uses than a drip coffee maker.

On the other hand, I can't handle HOT coffee. I have serious nerve damage on the left side of my face and lower lip. If the coffee, pizza, or soup is too hot, I don't realize it's actually burning me until the blisters show up. Keurig coffee is far too hot for me so I have to put an ice cube in the cup.

The Keurig is great but not without some flaws. I always run a brew of just hot water through it first. It helps heat the machine up and it also heats my coffee mug up, which keeps the coffee hotter, longer. I also predominantly use the reusable filter with my own coffee. It just tastes better, is cheaper (even with my $10-12 per pound coffee) and is less wasteful. There are some good k cups out there and I have some on hand, but rarely use them.

I love French Roast or darker coffee, but I drink very little. I buy and grind good dark roast beans. I've tried brewing, pressing, and I've used an espresso boiler. Doesn't matter. I can't make good dark roast coffee at home. And when I do make a pot, most of it goes down the drain.

Enter a Keurig-type machine. I can buy what I think is very good dark roast k-cups, brew one serving, and there is no waste. And I think they taste great.

Yep, 35-cents for a serving, but as expensive as it sounds, I still think it's cheaper than brewing a full pot, drinking 1 or 2 cups, and dumping the rest.

My Sister and Bro-in-Law from Missouri paid us a visit this year. He makes a pot of coffee every morning at home, and drinks it all. He had zero interest in a Keurig machine. When he was here, he had no choice but to use my Keurig machine. Guess what? He's getting one for Christmas.

Everybody's got their own idea of what works for them. :mrgreen:

Hi,

Coffee's like chili: everybody's got their own way to make it, and it's better than any other way! And just like chili, comments to the contrary start fights. Simple as that...

Which reminds me, I need to order a couple of new thermostats for the old Farberware percolator in the kitchen. They only last about 15 years each and it just got started on its third one. ;)

IIRC, the Keurig fixed machines, like mine, are set at 192 degrees Fahrenheit.

My biggest complaint about the Keurig is also that it doesn't make my coffee hot enough. I'd usually make a cup, then nuke it for a minute. However, the K-cup machine got boxed up and sent to the shed, and I've gone back to my old-fashioned percolator. The sound and the smell of a pot perking brings back memories of my parents kitchen long before I became a coffee drinker.

Either your coffee maker or microwave is defective. Most 1000 watt microwaves will take a 100* cup of liquid to nearly boiling in 1 minute.

I never thought I would like a Keurig but last year, my wife got me one for Christmas for use in the shop. I liked it so much we now have two, the other one for the kitchen. For me, it makes a perfect cup of coffee every time.

I've got an old Bunn (café-size) coffee maker that my wife bought for me over 20 years ago. It worked just as good this morning as it did the first day she bought it.
By contrast, I remember her trying various brands of them little plastic coffee makers, and that none of 'em lasted more than about six months....But hey, we're some purty-serious coffee drinkers around here, so I guess that they just couldn't handle the stress. :roll: .

As for those new-fangled one-cup makers go, one of my daughters has one of them things. It uses some sort of pre-measured sludge which comes in an assortment-pack of little container thingy's which sit in a rack next to her new-fangled coffee maker. When I looked at all that, and looked at the cup which came with it all, all I could think of to say was....
...You paid money for THAT ?...you gotta be kidding me. :lol: :lol: :lol: .

I have to make coffee in the morning before anything else. I have no reaction to the caffeine, I just love the stuff. I like my Bunn. If they weren't so noisy and I didn't mind running a water line, I'd get the commercial version. It's fast and convenient. Not as good as out of the campfire percolator but it's fast and convenient. I have a Keurig in the shop. It's okay. I still haven't perfected the serving sizes but it's fine for the shop where I have no plumbing (design flaw).

It helps to preheat your cup in the microwave before pouring the coffee. ;)

I've tried about every type coffee maker known to man, and have settled on the Keureig. I have 3 or 4 mugs of French Roast every AM. My wife stays with her French press. Why would you both have to use the same maker?

I drink a LOT of coffee! If you see me without a cup it is probably because another is brewing. I use a one cup pod type maker from Hamilton-Beach ( https://www.hamiltonbeach.com/single-cup-coffee-makers-personal-cup-one-cup-pod-brewer-49970.html ). Daughter has a Kuerig-it works fine for her. She makes one cup and heads for work. I, on the other hand, make a 12 cup pot and drink 1/3-1/2 of it before I leave the house(before I retired, I made the pot, put 1/2 in a Thermos, drank 2 cups, and took the rest in a go cup). I start pouring as soon as there's a dribble in the carafe and I can smell the aroma.

Easiest way. Dump some coffee grounds in a pot of water. Boil it for a while. Take it off the heat & let sit for a few minutes so the grounds settle some. Pour into cup if you must(strain it thru an old sock if you don't like it crunchy). :mrgreen:

Save your egg shells and throw them in the pot and it keeps the grounds down.

I'm a coffee junkie,of sorts,doing the Keurig thing for 2-3 years. I've been buying the cheapest box of 100 at Costco for awhile. I have the do-it-yourself plastic cups but it comes out at a lower temp,which is a bad thing. :lol:

I love K Cup coffees but the Keurig machines suck. I buy the Cuisinart "Keurig" machines at Costco. They last much longer, have a two year warranty, and Costco warranties them forever.

My Keurig is 6 years old. Clean it every 2 months and it runs fine. I've had no issues with it whatsoever.
