holster squeak

my new desantis tbs holster for my service six squeaks while i'm wearing it. not every step but if i twist or turn to one side it squeaks. is this normal till it breaks in? thanks

Some squeak...some don't...some stop...some won't.

I usually put baby powder or corn starch on them...most times, it will stop them.

boomer.... Pecard Leather Dressing or a light application of neatsfoot oil should help quell the obnoxious squeak. Also, straight glycerine. Against high humidity heat, I prefer a non-animal treatment. Pecard and glycerine are non-animal. Talcum powder or corn starch may work, but leather likes periodic leather treatment, anyway.

I've used baby powder, mink oil, and neasfoot oil. My wife uses hand lotion.
It all works to some extent.....but...mostly, it takes time for leather to wear-in enough for the squeaking to stop.

Is it a hybrid (kydex and leather) holster? I've noticed that the squeaking from my IWB holster is occurring mostly from rubbing between the Kydex and horsehide. It's gotten better with time but application of saddle soap helped only a little. Just the other day I noticed (by twisting the empty holster) that the squeaking is indeed coming from the Kydex rubbing the leather. Unfortunately I saved a few bucks by buying the model that has the Kydex riveted on but I may drill the rivets out and put a thin layer of felt or moleskin between the Kydex and the leather.

I make holsters and oil them with E.V.O.O. as a step in manufacture before final finish.
EVOO = Extra virgin olive oil(available at the local grocery store). It has been used for over 1,000 years as a leather treatment.

It is the olive oil that is made from the first cold pressing. It is the pure stuff that will not turn rancid.
Roman sandals from biblical times have been found in digs that are still pliable after 1,000 years that were oiled with EVOO. Some of the best leather workers use it today.

Just a follow up on my comment about the creak apparently being because the kydex and horsehide were rubbing on my IWB holster. I just bought the "same" holster for my Glock 26. This one does not squeak...and the only difference I noticed is that they put hard rubber or plastic washers between the J-clips and the horsehide backing where the clips attach. No squeak at all.

I found that my squeaks came from the J-clips rubbing the leather. I talked to Crossbreed and they suggested putting moleskin between the clips and leather. I put it on the back of the clip and voila, no more squeaks!

To reitereate, it must be good quality "extra virgin" olive oil. Which comes from the first cold pressing of the olives and is PH balanced. It's the heat associated with the subsequent pressings that raises the acid level. I love extra virgin olive oil and just buy a small bottle of the same stuff I use in the kitchen to keep in the leather shop. Everything I make gets treated to a dose or two.
