I recently picked up an 7.5" Old Army and would like to find a good flap holster for it. I'm not interested in paying top dollar for one of the Ruger-labeled Bianchis; they seem very expensive when they can be found at all. So other suggestions? Is the Old Army close enough in dimensions to the Remington 1860 that holsters for the latter will work? Thanks.

Check "Sportsmans Guide" catalog. I recall seeing some holsters in there that might work. I believe their catalog is on-line too.

Dixie Gun Works used to sell one. But it was low quality for the price, IMHO. The Old Army I have found will fit in most pouch type (slim jim, etc) holsters for the Blawkhawk so if you find a Blawkhawk flap holster the OA may fit. I would want to try it first, tho.

Triple K sells a flap holster but I don't know if they offer one for the OA or Blawkhawk and I'm not a fan of their quality.

i got simply rugged to make a holster for my old army. perfect fit. mine doesnt have a flap but i bet they could make one with a flap if you asked.

Check our El Paso Saddlery and Pacific Canvas and Leather, Inc.; they both have excellent period holsters; if necessary, El Paso Saddlery will custom make whatever you need.

Best, Jon

If you want a military style civil war holster there are many online sutlers that cater to the re-enactors. A holster that will fit an 1858 Remington will house a ROA just fine. Most will be black but there will be some in a russet color to suit the southern re-enactors.

You may want or need to wet mold the holster for a better fit

OK< just what is "too expensive"??? we've had, bought and sold the Ruger Bianchi flap holsters and not sold them for THAT much money????
Good holsters can be "pricey" anyway, leather ain't cheap.........

got a couple still around here..................one 'short' 4 5/8th Super Single Six , and an 'Old Army'................

I'd happily spend $75-$100 for one ... but I've seen asking prices as high as $200. That's unreasonable to me.

Case in point, here's one for a 7.5" Blackhawk.
