I have a collection of holsters for my Max 9 with a 3.2 inch barrel. Recently I purchased the 4 inch barrel/slide kit and now I would like to find a holster that covers the entire slide, preferably in leather. It seems like the holster makers haven't caught up with the 4 inch version. Anybody have any experience with this?

Time to wake up and smell the coffee! Product Number 3507.
Well crap this is the first I have heard about it and I was an Early Adopter of the Max9. It might offer a little better shootability without compromising concealability unlike most newer guns where they extend the grips. Of course it is as simple as making your own. Too bad this wasn't an option initially I might have actually gotten one. It would probably fit a Cargo Pocket as well as the standard one. I do consider the Max9 more of a pocket pistol. Anything bigger gets into Glock 19 etc mid size Duty/Carry vs Micro/Concealed Carry.

A trip to Tandy or Hobby Lobby for some leather should make short work for a Holster that fits. I've made several for my standard one. Making them slightly longer would be easy enough.

Neat as can be, but why. Nominal velocity improvement, loger sight picture for iron sights maybe. Anything else? MKPC.
Exactly. Given the choice initially I might have gone with the 4". Mine continues to amaze me so far. They could probably even offer a longer grip frame as well to go with it to rival the Sig 365 options. Honestly the longer slide shouldn't really hurt concealability while enhancing performance somewhat. My standard one continues to amaze me at 25+ yds. With the Crimson Trace I am only slightly slower than my Open Class race gun. The accuracy with ammo it likes is absolutely beyond any reasonable expectations. Considering that I already have 6 holsters that it wouldn't work with I'll save the hundred or two dollars. I'm seriously looking at the S&W CSX E. Similar size Optic ready with a hammer!!! If it's as accurate it might be my new EDC???

What kind o ammo does your like? I have read, not yet tried heavier ammo does better.

Spoke to Ruger customer service. Whitney was the lady's name. She said the slide uses the same rod and spring. Somebody please buy one and let us know.
I have purchased the 4 inch slide kit (with Ready Dot). Yes, I can confirm that it uses the same rod and spring assembly as the 3.2 inch barrel and slide.

How do you like it? Let us know please when you get it to the range/-. The hole for the rod is recessed, right?
There is a lug under the 4 inch slide that is about an inch long. A hole runs the length of the lug that is not big enough to pass the front end of the recoil spring assembly. The hole is counter-bored at the rear to form a pocket for the recoil spring.

So how does it shoot??? Enquiring Minds want to know!!!
Well I took it to an indoor range on Wednesday. The experience reminded me that pistol shooting is a perishable skill. I was flinching a good bit, but not quite as much as with the 3.2 inch barrel. This 4 inch slide is now sporting a Shield RMSc red dot and I can't say I have that down yet. When I squeezed off the shots as soon as I pushed out, I made some good hits. When I let the muzzle wander for too long, the results weren't so good. In general, the gun feels more substantial, and the added weight in the front is helping to reduce muzzle flip. It is not quite as snappy as the 3.2 inch version. My errors were mostly down and to the right, which is odd for a right-handed shooter.

On a previous trip to my club, I measured higher muzzle velocities (as expected) than with the 3.2 inch barrel by about 50 fps. The load I have come up with is 3.6 grains of Win 231 under a 124 gr round nosed bullet at 930 fps. This is a milder load that I think is appropriate for a micro-pistol. Gordon's Reloading Tool tells me I am getting burnout inside of the 4 inch barrel, so complete combustion is happening. I need some regular practice, but I think this combination of gun + ammo is only going to improve with time. I would like to take this gun to a training event that spans several days. That would really help me develop some comfort with it.

I tried using this gun with my AIWB holster and the added barrel length gets in the way. OWB at 3:30 is no problem.

It sounds like a lot of promise. Thanks. 3.6 grains sounds very light, I am realyy ignorant about this stuff. What would a standard 124 grain bullut have?

Little over 1,000 for me. I run mine a little hotter though. My standard one puts 90gr Lehigh's going a little over 1,200 into 2" at 25yds semi rested. 65gr Lehigh's going around 1,500 about 6".
I've determined that I'll skip the 4". I Pocket Carry mine so it would make it a little harder. I have my Palmetto Dagger already so the role of a slightly "more" pistol is already filled and has its own selection of holsters. If that role wasn't already filled I would definitely be looking at the 4" slide and trying to figure out how to set up some extended mags with grip sleeves like the companies that care do.

Many of the reloading recipes for 124 grain bullets top out at 1050-1150 fps (with a 4 inch barrel).

This is the holster I have, plenty of length for a 4" barrel

I wasn't aware that there was a long slide version available!!! Pics or it didn't happen. A custom gun will need a custom holster.

Ruger has to do something, Taurus has brought out 7 or 8 models out and they are a direct competition to the Max 9. Starting with a Taurus G2 series, G3 Series, and G4 series. They are getting a LOT of reviews. Just about everywhere you look, someone is doing a review. Hickok 45 was so impressed with it that he said he might buy one.
Everyone consistently has mentioned how good the trigger is and how smooth the recoil is on the Taurus. They aren’t just micro’s these days.
The prices are very competitive as well.
