"In these favorable times of peace and prosperity, many of the Northumbrian race, both nobles and commoners, are laying down their arms and preferring that they and their children should receive the tonsure and take monastic vows, rather than train themselves in the art of war. What the result of this will be, a later age will discover."

The first recorded Viking raids upon England hit the monastery at Lindisfarne, Northumbria in 793 A.D., destroying it.

I see strong parallels to this in our nation. Get soft, get hit.

I think man's nature is to covet peace and to live a quiet and easy life... the problem is there are those few who lie in wait for the perfect time to knock down one's door.... it's been said in many ways ....

True history is not being taught in our schools today. Even when I was going to school (1943-44 to 1957, very little was taught about the Russian revolution. Even after it happens and I was in Junior High and High school , while WW2 was taught as whole, little was said on how Germany and Hitler especially came to power.

Now I see the same type of activity going on in the streets of major cities by antifa and BLM. Folks, it "Deja vu all over again" and we sit here wringing our hands and muttering, "Woe is me." wile one party abets the criminality and the other stands apparently either helpless or just hasn't the stones to do their job.

I thank God that I'm old. I probably won't be around to see the final outcome of this whole mess. History has always been of interest. I think old Ben Franklin was right. We're doomed to repeat it.
