He'd helped on previous builds but when I discovered I had a complete 10/22 I'd forgotten about I figured I'd let him do his own all on his own. Showed him ALL stocks I could think off and let him make his choice. Did the same with barrels and optics. It was to be 100% his ideas and his hands doing as much as he possibly could so I didn't steer him towards anything or try and pursued him to go with what I wanted/liked. (too many do this when they buy for another and I was NOT gonna pressure him to get what I wanted, after all it was to be HIS) I held the trigger assembly while he aligned holes and inserted pins, springs, shims, etc. He did the bolt turning. Not a lot I know but for a 10yo, he really had a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing HE did it and it was all HIS ideas. Well, maybe just one was mine, the bolt was a surprise I had for him and he loved it - I got a teary eyed hug from that alone. 
Still waiting for his choice of optics to be available - the Bushnell First Strike (Bushnell's version of the Burris Fastfire) Otherwise, it's done and it resulted in a VERY happy 10yo.
