Things are getting a bit better. I had to give up and start using the pain meds in order to start regaining leg function. Still have some deep muscle aches and such. Walking on hard smooth surfaces with one cane fairly well. Outside, I'm using two canes for stability on gravel and loose dirt/grass. Stairs are slow and tiring but workable.
Still don't feel ready to drive far but can manage short distance by using left foot to brake--just not confident the right leg will respond properly if I need to get from gas to brake rapidly. I've got to get that part going as I have work scheduled to begin in a couple of weeks. I can't expect someone to stop what they're doing to drive me hither and yon for my work. As it is, I going to have to get Tom or the guy who rents our north farm to load out my hay since there's no way I can manage that any time soon. My loader tractor requires that both hands and both feet be fully functional for safe operation.

Left foot braking is a good thing, hell of a way to have to learn it!

As many have noted here,, it takes TIME! Glad to hear things are progressing,, however slowly & not as quickly as you'd like. Just do as you should, & NOT overdo it causing bigger problems.

Mobuck, what date did you have your surgery? I had mine last Mothers day. My recovery has been going slower than yours. I am retired and my wife watch's me like a hawk. I believe without that factor I either would be progressing faster or more likely be in worse shape by pushing things and probably falling again. I already took one more nasty fall and got banged up again. I haven't even tried driving yet as she insists on driving. I still am on the walker as she is hard to live with when I push things so I have been sucking it up living on the computer. I do walk back and forth on the sidewalk behind the house about ten minuets twice a day using the walker. I miss driving the most.
My pain has pretty much subsided the last couple weeks but still is there as a dull ache. My biggest factor slowing me up is arthritis in the left ankle and it`s the right hip. I got a steroid shot in the ankle and that helped. The ankle kept going out after walking just a little so have continued using the walker for saftey`s sake. Hang in there, better days are coming.

I’m 5 weeks today on my new, right hip. Gets better when swelling goes down. First month or 6 weeks are the most painful. It just takes time to heal. Kinda like a broken heart!

July 16 so today is the 3rd full week. Today was another long(ish) day. Trying to get back into doing some things and still looking for all the stuff Grandsons scattered. I spent 1/2 hour looking for the belt GS1 (Grandson 1) had borrowed. Finally gave up and used an old one I discovered while searching for the other. Spent another 45 minutes putting away some parts that had arrived while I was stuck in bed. Then a guy called wanting to look at a hay mower I had advertised. That took an 1.5 hours by the time Tom got it loaded on the buyer's trailer. Now I'm feeling the strain. Not overdone, just those muscles getting reconditioned to activity.
A bit of a problem has come up with work so I've got to try to make the 230 mile round trip to Columbia MO to sort out a solution if I can manage the trip by the end of this week. To make that work, I'll for sure have to go easy the next couple of days.

Had mine done ,home the next day and driving by that Friday . the type of procedure is very important and your weight and lifestyle play an important role in a speedy recovery, no drugs just Advil. I had Anterior total hip replacement. Piece of cake and I am 70

You guys are more ambitious and tougher than me. Mine hasn't went that well. My blood pressure is super low and they have me wearing a heart monitor.

I was driving after 3 weeks. I use a cane. Helps a lot. Had GTO out a few times. My son in law helped me change coils and plugs on # 7&8 cyls on F150. I’m going to try and mow tomorrow. I think I can sit on John Deere. I’ve already ran weed eater around the house.

After I got home July 3, I added an app on my iPhone, “Pedometer “. It showed the previous week amount of steps I had taken. I figured it would start the date I downloaded the app. That’s how our cellular devices track us. The numbers were accurate. It was right before surgery and the days in hospital.

Thanks guys. You've helped me get through most of the really rough times.
Keep in mind that throughout all of my previous injuries and such, I've never been totally debilitated for more than a couple of days. Even when I was blown up, I was up and able to move around even though I was breathing through a hole in my neck. I wasn't moving very fast but I was moving.
After this surgery, my mind just couldn't accept that I was in this very compromised condition.

I just now walked a little through the house without the stroller. I think things will go faster now. Wife videoed it and is sending it to our kids.

Keep smiling Mobuck. Keep exercising, but when muscles get tired, you have to rest it. I just finished mowing my yard. Last cut in June. Grass was a foot tall in places, but 18 horse John Deere barely broke a sweat. Now my hip is sore, but I did get a workout.
