Help with wife and LC9

Bought my wife an LC9 for Christmas and she has been shooting it about every weekend since. Her form is pretty good and she does a good job with a Browning semi Auto 22 and the 22 revolvers. The LC9 not as much.

Today we were going over her techique and I found out she was not using the end of her finger but pulling the trigger between the 1st and 2nd knuckle because she said it hurt her finger to use the end of her finger. She is consistently pulling her shots to the left about 6 inches from 25 feet.

Any suggestions? Would Eric's upgrades help her with a shorter trigger pull?

BTW, I shot 2 mags when she became frustrated and the gun was spot on.

I would have to say it is probably something to do with her finger positioning on the trigger. I had a bit of the same issue when I was new to shooting and new to my LC9.

I knew better than to even try to take direction from my significant other. I get too defensive and he gets too "know it all" with his instruction. Not saying that you two have this going on, but sometimes the right dynamic isn't there.

If you don't mind my saying so, maybe a lesson with an instructor "other than spousal unit" - maybe a female instructor. It's sometimes rather like taking driving lessons from one's spouse. Sometimes women, I am one after all, take direction/correction better from someone other than the spousal unit. :wink:

I appreciate what you're saying VQ. She really likes this gun. I asked her if she wanted to try my 1911 but she declined :) Seems like most of the women only shoots get filled up pretty quick but we are looking. She's even considering going left handed and is pretty good at that with the 22's.

Th LC9's trigger pull is pretty radical but there is one thing that would help before you try the trigger kit. It's as simple as dry firing for 20 or so minutes per day. That small of a gun has a pretty good flinch factor. The dry firing helps you to hear a soft click instead of a kaboom. It's helped both my wife and me. I'm not saying that we won't try the trigger kit eventually but that long trigger pull is considered sort of a third safety for the LC9.

After I had checked it out I handed it to the DW and told her to take it for a spin. She LIKED it, she especially liked the trigger pull and quickly put 5 shots on target.

She hasn't given up on the LC9 and shot a few mags through it left handed and put her shots easily on target. The jury is still out on making the trigger change, "maybe" is about as far as we have gotten.

the factory configuration on that LC9 doesn't do it justice...upgrade the trigger, guide rod, & recoil spring and that thing will be butter.

This is exactly the reason I would never buy or consider any DAO firearm. I also have an SR9c and love it. Probably the nicest trigger and grip of any gun I own and the most accurate to boot......which I would credit a lot of that accuracy to the trigger. I started my wife out on a Taurus .....PT22(?)...the tiny little .22 pocket pistol when she started shooting. It was DAO, and we did not own it for long. The long, heavy trigger just takes all of the fun (and accuracy) out of plinking.....and I would assume that under a stressful self-defense use, this problem would be compounded x 100. I'd trade the LC9 in for another SR9c and not look back.

Using the tip of the index finger on the trigger allows you to grip the gun properly. If you get to the first knuckle then when you fire it will hurt your hand between thumb and index finger. I know because I was doing that at first.
I think your wife just needs to get used to the proper hand position. Another instructor besides the "spousal unit" might be good.

I've never been called a "spousal unit" and don't play one on TV but I do use the first joint of my trigger finger to "activate" the firing mechanism. I had to practice a bit to get the hang of shooting the lc9 but it just took a bit of time. I am one of those few who "took" to this silly little thing. Time and practice, success will come. "edit" I was also teasing about the "spousal unit" thing... it's really hard to "see" a smile on these boards so you never know???

Sorry for repeating the spousal unit thing. No offense intended. Just trying to stretch out the funny comment that another poster made. I think that term came from the Conheads movie. (Meps)

I have never owned a new pistol like the LC9 before. I have never fired a pocket gun before, so I have nothing to compare it too.

I love this little gun and I think I am going to remove the bluing from the barrel and polish it up like other LC9 owners have done.
