A while back someone was speaking of how hot it was in Phoenix. I thought I would post this photo of my weather station display. You can see the date and the time this occurred. This isn't in Arizona but in the northeast part of Maryland where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay

I didn't post that as a contest as to "my place is hotter than yours". I posted it to show that Phoenix is not the only place with high temperatures. No, it isn't 115 but it also isn't 30% or less humidity.

Some years back we, Nita and I, were vacationing in Study Butte, Texas. A wrangler there told me that meteorologists there had taking temperature there at ground (sand) level. The official temp was around 105* but the sand level registered 145*!

As to heat, we were in Bar Harbor, Maine in September. The temperature was around 92* or something like that, but we were sweltering as most places around there are not airconditioned! And the humidity was in the 90% vicinity!

No, it isn't 115 but it also isn't 30% or less humidity.

Living in "the oven" I can say that yours is FAR worse than our 110 to 115 degrees.
With the dew point at 75 to 86, you have the worst combination. High temperature
with HIGH humidity. :wink: My condolences.

My weather station does not have a "Heat Index", but I easily concede yours as the
"less optimal" combination. I went out to feed the quail yesterday (104@46)
and it was quite uncomfortable. - - - I hope your A/C is working well. 8)


As a P.S.:
Back in another life time, I was in Atlanta for a class. A/C worked fine, quite nice.
The only problem was at lunch. You HAD to go outside. Low 90s but also low 90s
for the humidity. It was like walking into a . . . HOT . . . WET . . . blanket.
It does not upset me to not be living there now. :wink:

101 degrees? Even in Southern California we can beat that.

But no where near their 56% humidity. Here 10-12% is the norm. Even Death Valley's 116 and 5% wouldn't be as bad.

I totally agree however I would rather have to put up with the 101 at Ft Bliss (there a few times) then the 101 at Aberdeen Proving Ground (10 minutes from my house). One has 25% humidity and other 60%. That is what makes a difference.

I can remember walking to my pickup in the parking lot after work and it was 112. It was in the desert and I could feel a slight breeze barely blowing. That air was cool as if coming from the nearby mountain. It was a strange sensation.

Here in central Washington we've had temps as high as 113 this last week. It's cooled down to the mid 90s now but since this is a desert climate it cools to the 60s at night.

Some of my wife's relatives live in Brush Prairie, Washington, just a bit north of Portland. They said the temperature was awful there.

I know the feeling. Living just up the hill from the Susquehanna river and the Chesapeake bay we get 'steamy' often. As was said "it's summer and it's hot"; however I would rather have hot and dry over hot and humid any day.

June 28, 1778, the Battle of Monmouth was fought in 90 degree heat. In the Summer of 1966 we had a couple of 104 degree days here in Central NJ, I went through BCT at Fort Dix in the Summer of 1967, that was a hot one, Summer of 1975 at ROTC Advanced Camp at Fort Bragg, a heat wave. August, 1896, a killer heat wave in the Northeast.
