I don't want to appear to be plugging Miracle Ear but I was in for my yearly hearing exam and talking to the technician about possible improvements on my current 'phone ear bud in left ear/hearing aid in right ear' system. My Android phone is not a direct connect to ME and would require an addition widget to make the connection.
I'll be eligible for a new hearing aid next calendar year so we were discussing what was available. The tech told me that ME is going to have an Android compatible unit on the market soon and should be ready by the time I'm eligible to upgrade.
If you're an Android user and have an interest is running your phone audio through your 'bionic ear', this might be of interest.
BTW, if you don't already know this: ME can adjust settings so that gun fire(or other extreme noises) aren't magnified.

You've got, maybe, $5 worth of electronics and $0.10 worth of plastic and they're priced at $1400-1500 apiece. What a racket!

I'm not too sure I know what was said. I don't think I have an android unless its in my cell phone. Right now I'm not yet to the point I need a hearing aid, but not too far down the road. I do suffer from tinnitus from my Army days. The only ear plugs we had was the filters off cigarettes, and at times these stuffed into empty .45 ACP cases.

So, I'll be there soon!

You’re not paying for the components, you’re paying for the people who know how to put it all together. Support American jobs.

Sorry, I was in 'fast forward' mode this morning. Android vs Apple operating system. We have Android system phones since that provides the best combination of features for our needs.
Yes, the cost of name brand hearing aids is atrocious. The model I have is 1.5X that $1400-1500 but fits my needs and actually works for me. My insurance covered the cost of one aid 100% and covers a newer model replacement or additional 2nd ear after 2 years. My original is still working fine so I'll get a second for my other ear and link it to my phone so I have full hearing in both ears plus hands free phone w/o the separate phone earpiece if I choose OR I can have an outside the ear headset over an in-the-ear aid.
Since I work for a Federal agency, I'm required to use hands free phone while driving and I spend a LOT of time on the phone and driving so I need these features.

Good hearing aids can be really expensive and I'm very thankful that I qualify to get them and the batteries through the VA for free.

Phonak is what I’ve had now for 3 or 4 years.

Cost me almost $5,000 but well worth it.
