Hawkeye weight

I am looking at getting a new hawkeye soon and have been trying to decide what I want. I have just about settled on an all weather in 308 but I like things that are a little different so the 300 rcm is interesting to me. What I dont understand is that the 308 win is listed at 7.0 lbs on the website and the 300 rcm is listed at 7.75 lbs. Are these true weights or is this a typo?

If it is the true weights, what makes the 300 rcm rifle so much heavier. The same goes for the 270 vs 30-06 with half a pound difference listed between the two.

Ruger's listed weights have been a major source of controversy over the years.

The 25/06, 7RM, 300 WM, and 338WM all have thicker, longer barrels. The smaller bores should weigh more than the bigger bores since the outside dimensions are the same.

I would say that 7.25 lbs would be a pretty accurate weight for both rifles.

The weight difference could be the contour of the barrel. I have a 300 rcm in the stainless version, and it is a bit heavier than the 308. Having said that, I like my 300 rcm very much. it shoots like a house afire, however, it isn't exactly factory standard. I have replaced the trigger with a timney trigger, pillar bedded the stock, recrowned the muzzle, filled in all the hollow areas of the forearm with pro-bed 2000, and then glass bedded the action. It will easily print sub-moa groups with just about anything I throw down the barrel from 130 grain hornady's to 180 grain swift scirrocco's. The finish took kind of a beating last year going in and out of a rifle scabbard several times a day for 2 weeks, so I refinished the barrel with aluma-hyde II. I guess some people like the cartridge, and some people hate it. For me, there's not anything that I would change, but each person has their own ideas.
