Hawkeye vs. 77 MKII?

What are the differences between the new Hawkeye action and the 77 MKII? I looked at the Hawkeye a few times and couldn't tell. I don't know the 77 MKII that well, which is probably a big part of the problem.

The hawkeye has a LC6 trigger. You can tell the difference if you look at the back side of trigger. The LC 6 will have a groove on rear side.

Hawkeye has slimmer stock lines at sacrifice of one round of magazine capacity. Hawkeye has a different checkering pattern, steel floorplate (aluminum on MK II). Red Recoil Pad (instead of black) .The action remains essentially unchanged.

In addition, the steel floorplate has the Ruger logo engraved into it. Surprisingly, it still has the Ruger "SR" monogram!

Differences in the action are the roll mark and steel bottom metal on the Hawkeye. LC6 triggers were rolled in during MKII production and many late model MKIIs have it. Finishes were changed with intro of the Hawkeye which eliminated a high polish blue option. There was no reduction in magazine capacity. The stock was "slimmed" somewhat and checkering was changed to give more coverage and the recoil pads were changed, not necessarily improved.

I stand corrected regarding the magazine capacity but the newer so-called, "Satin" finish Hawkeye is pretty close to the old gloss finish of the MK II. The newer red recoil pad does better match the aesthetics of this classic lined rifle, in my opinion.

For those that prefer gloss blue... not so much. :-)
Aesthetics aside, the new pad is no better than the old at mitigating recoil. They are much more a stock protector than a "recoil" pad.
